Figure I'll start a new thread about the 24s upgrades.

The boat is back over at Kunkels Marine in Mansfield/Ontario, OH. Jason has been working on the steering and mocked up the 280 K-planes with an empty upper to make sure that everything cleared. Says the steering and tabs won't interfere, so thats good news.. I thought we might have to turn the steering mounts on the transom sideways to get the bigger tabs to fit.

He sent a few pics:

Looks good. I prefer the more compact steering systems that mount inside the tabs. But the ram on my 24 was rigged just like yours.

ndaniels 02-22-2011 01:33 PM

Yeah, I'd really love an ITS setup from Merc or Imco... man they look nice.

I have ITS on my new rig. It is nice, the less holes drilled in the transom the better.

Here's a pic of the 24 I owned was rigged.

Some more progress.. Jason and I talked today and worked out a few of the details on wiring and battery layout. I'm going with dual batteries mounted tward the front of the bilge (like the factory does) to keep weight balanced- one on each side. I figure group 27 batteries are around 60lbs a piece and could throw things off (hell I wanted to do 31s but Jason advised against it).

Installing a heads up indicator for the tabs and drive in order to free up a gauge hole.. hopefully it'll give us enough room for 3 additional 2" gauges on the dash.

Dave M 03-03-2011 05:30 PM

Looks good. When will you be hitting the water?

I should be out by the end of the month! :drink:

Depends... might be out next month.

He's pretty much all done with rigging except for indicators, batteries, and some tubes/wires for a few additional gauges.

Dave, was your battery mounted forward on the side platform- kinda toward the back bench? Thats where mine was.. and I plan on installing two of them, one on each side.

I have a feeling that the swim platform will be holding everything up. I gotta call them and see if its possible to drop it off on a weekend... hopefully next weekend. I won't have a day off during the week for a while to run it up there.

Got the indicators sorted out.. they sent some rasberry colored ones (supposed to be red). I guess Stainless figured out that the last batch of red turned out wrong after we called them. It was going to be a while untill they had another batch back from thier anodizer. I talked to Jason and I thought that black fingers would look good. He ordered a set of black fingers and a polished bare base. I wanted to make it red to match the boat, so off to the anodizer it went.. I really like the final product (better than all red, imo).

Engine is coming together.. Jason worked out the mockup to make everything fit under the hatch. There isn't much room infront of the motor and the intercooler has to be mounted off to the side.

Looks Great!

Only other thing I'd eventually like to do is possibly turn it into a sitdown.. but thats a long ways off. The interior is still way to nice to consider it.

Jason fired it today... sent a couple of short vids:

Nick, you're alomost ready to hit the water!!!

Nice setup. What else is left on her to be done?

ndaniels 04-16-2011 12:27 PM

Gotta finish plumbing up the charger- I think that Jason is waiting on a rubber elbow. Swim platform re-powdered and battery trays need coated.. I gotta find a day during the week to take them up there (by Cleveland). New Livorsi gauges for the dash.. and we have to use two pods ontop the dash because of lack of space. Probably going to make it a push-button start to free up more dash space.

WOW! Looks great! What kind of power is it putting out?

ndaniels 04-20-2011 12:13 PM

I dunno... should eventually be 650+.

dba900 04-20-2011 08:30 PM

650+?! Dayyyuuumm! What kind of speed are you expecting?

ndaniels 04-20-2011 09:32 PM

I wanted to get 85mph any day of the week, no matter the temps or load onboard.

I think it should be able to run that fairly easily judging by some other quick 24x7 boat setups..

bobo1 05-02-2011 05:02 PM

F&^%ing Beautiful!!!

25Daytona 06-07-2011 01:52 PM

Hey Nick, the boat looks great. I used to own it. I bought it from Gary in upstate NY. I loved driving that thing because it was a true" driver's boat". Boat ran great for me just bad timing for me to have it. Loved the way it accelerated like a car (32-60 mph). Keep up the good work.
Shawn

ndaniels 06-07-2011 04:14 PM

I've heard about the history since Gary owned her and now have talked to everyone that owned the boat in-between him and me on the forums.. pretty cool!

What are you in now Shawn? Also, where do you boat? Ever make it down to Cumberland?

Almost got everything together now. I'm waiting on a few more parts for the gauges and some misc items. I think Jason is anxious to get it out and run it- I told him I'm going to pull the plug before he gets the chance!! LOL...

Yup, The previous ownder of my boat is just a phone call away and I talk to the current owner of my last boat occasionally.

25Daytona 06-09-2011 06:07 AM

Been out of boating since I sold the SB. We used to go to Lake Cumberland alot. I had a 2000 Eliminator 25 Daytona before the SB. New house and kids playing sports year round have left me riding dirt bikes for fun now. Great job on the boat again.

I can't say for sure what I think of it since haven't run it myself yet, but Kunkel says its really really wild ride... hope to tame it a little with time/setup, but I have no illusions it'll be an easy boat to run fast in.

Dave M 08-22-2011 05:57 AM

WOW! Congrats.

I'd say be careful Nick..... but I know you will.... Congrats & Enjoy.... nothing like a fist full of throttle!

ndaniels 08-27-2011 08:01 AM

Big thanks to Jeff at JC performance for discussing the 102mph 24Super with me last week... hopefully I can play with drive depth a little and get this one dialed in next year.

Looks like maiden voyage might be next weekend at Cumberland.. we're planning on spending 3 days on the boat. I have a solid hub 29Mirage prop I'll start off with.. might also bring along a couple of other wheels to try.

Dave M 08-27-2011 08:42 AM

Good luck! I'm betting that overall, you will like a Bravo 1 better than the Mirage. My 24 was all over the road with a Mirage+. It settled right down with a Bravo.

GregGuimond 08-27-2011 01:01 PM

Another good option to try with the Super 24 is a Rev4. It should be very close in rpm to the Bravo 1 and you may find it works even better then the Bravo.

Before all the work, the Revolution 4 was by far my favorite prop on the boat.. was a couple mph slower than my Mirage plus, but the improved handling (and attutide off waves) more than made up for it. Too bad they only go up to 25" pitch..

GRH 08-29-2011 12:43 PM

The boat always handled best for me with a Mirage(not +).... but it only ran early 80's back then.... it developed terrible bow steer slowing down with the Bravo prop.... good luck & be careful!
