The tab does seem very high, that high and you well past level before it can do any good. I have had several 7' beam boats and all have the same characteristic, you may try a lefty and run the drive in reverse.

Tried a lefty, boat was really a handful.
I do have twin rams, just noticed my starboard side leaking a little, could be part of the problem. No one else has had this problem of rolling on the port side? i do have high HP for the narrow beam, but it wasn't like this last year! |
Could be the tab setup. I've experienced a few years ago on one of my dads boats the both tabs worked off of one reservoir (bennett tabs I think) and there was a leak in them, the fluid was low. I'd set the tabs , everything seemed ok then the boat would start to lean again. You'd make a turn and the water pressure would push back the tabs.

Back at it
Boats going in the water this week...We'll see what it does with a 27P Mirage, a completely bled sfull hydraulic sterring system and full trim tab reservoirs!!

Good Luck. I don't care for a 3 blade on my boat. Blowout, chine walk, and less than 1 mph top end difference.
How much did it cost to complete your steering system? You had a add on system before? Dave M. |
Hey Guys,
I had Houston Prop work his magic on my 25p three blade. The prop does not blow out nearly half as much. Dave, I think on the stepped, notched 24' Superboat the four blade is definitely better. You don't have any speed loss and the great bite. On my boat and a 24' Pantera straight V, there is a top end speed loss with the 4 blade. About 2 mph for me, and that 2 mph keeps me in front of my buddie's Fountain...:D Good Luck Pantera 24-650HP! Let us know how she runs...:) |
Patrick,
What size / power Fountain does you buddy have? There is a guy at my marina that just bought a '95 27 Fountain w/ 500HP. I can't wait to see him out on the water. I think he said he does 78 mph, I'll just have to see for myself! :D |
My friend Gregg has a 1997 29' with a 415HP/502MPI. It runs 65mph with a light load which is quite good for a boat that big. It is a real dog out of the hole though, it is under powered a bit. Most of the older 29' Fountains had twins. When his engine dies, he will likely go 500HP+.

Hey Guys, whats going on? I see that your making progress with the Volvo Pat, good luck with her .
I'm finally getting around to changing the Mirage Plus for a Bravo1, should I get the solid hub ? Whats the diffrence? The Merc web page suggest that you go a pitch lower when you go four blade. Is this the case with stepped hulls too? I still need to get the 2nd mayfair piston and helm installed, but my guy is booked solid . I wanted to have the steering and possibly ECU work before Memorial Day. I havent been in yet, I'm shooting for this weekend. I Spent this weekend getting the bike running. Good luck this season... THE MIRAGES ARE ALITTLE PHAT ON PITCH WHERE THE BRAVOS ARE ALITTLE LITE.25 MIRAGE GO TO 26 BRAVO AND 23 MIRAGE GO TO 24 BRAVO BUY THE SOLID HUB AND U NEVER HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER.;)
