How Fast Is Your Superboat ???

OK Guys,
No BS...
How fast do your boats go?

I was fortunate to get out on the water twice this week to let her rip.

The water on the CT river was like glass both days. No wind to speak of, and mean low tide (no current).
2 people, 3/4 tank of fuel, and normal gear (cooler with an 18 pack on ice)

Here are the numbers for my 1997 24' with her 310HP/7.4MPI

26p Bravo I prop: 69mph (speedo), 64.8mph (gps) at 4500rpm

25p Mirage + prop: 71mph (speedo), 66.2mph (gps) at 4600rpm

Not too bad...

I have seen 1-2mph more in a 1-2ft chop and out in the salt water.

Next year with a few off season mods. I am hoping to see 70+mph on my GPS.

Happy Boating,

:)

Faster then Yours! :D

When are you gonna build that engine!

Here's my stats

98 24' 454 Mag MPI 385 HP.

All speeds GPS....

Best speed ever, 75.3, 25" Mirage Plus, 5200 RPM

2nd best 74.8, 26" Bravo 1

I think my motor may be getting tired, I think the best I've hit this season has been 72.6.

6" - 1" water will always net my best speeds. Glass like water doesn't allow max RPMS for me.

Hey Dave,

I talk to Glen at the machine shop yesterday. My heads are on the bench being bowel ported.
I plan to pull my engine some time this fall and put it on the engine stand in my basement.
The plan is to change the heads, cam, exhaust, and reprogram the ECU.

How about you?
Are you going to build a 500hp?
If you are, add another piston to your external steering.

My best speed ever was 67.6mph (gps).
I did see 72.4 on my gps once, but when I put the boat in neutral, the gps was still reading 6+mph. We can have a hell of a current in the river if it has rained a lot, and the tide is going out.

I'm in the process of deciding what I want to to. I'm kicking around the idea of selling her and getting something bigger. I don't want to put out any $$ if I'm going to sell. If I keep her I wil go to FULL hydraulic steering over the winter in preparation for more power.

My wish list right now is .....

30' Superboat
29 Kryptonite
28 Pantera (single)
Activator
Phantom

I want something that will be fast without crazy power. I'm happy with a bare bones type boat too. I don't need all the ammenities. The '24 is actually big enough for the waters that I frequent. But a few more feet would make those rough days a little more comfortable.

Dave, I like your list for a potential next boat!

A F1 type single engine will be my next as well...
Not in the cards just yet, but my wife named our boat "For Now" for a reason.

I think the hunt for the next can be as much fun as owning the one you have.

Good luck!
Keep us posted, I love to BS about bigger and faster...

Hey Guys,
Just had the bottom bluprinted this past winter ,it helped. Im still not happy with the numbers,
34p bravo four blade(labbed down to 33), 5800rpms,89.90 on gps ,with a good chop to air it out,87.5 on flat water. 509 with a small blower about 650 hp.I dropped a valve at cambridge and destroyed a piston and a head , scored the cylinder pretty bad and waiting to hear if it is sleeveable, Im not sure if I will rebuild or replace .Hey Tripps ,still got a big block in your basement?
Jim Capie

Hey Jcap and Tripps,

I met up with some guys from Babylon, NY at The Giants vs. Dolphins game last week, small world...

Sorry to here about your engine Jim, good thing the season is just about over. Will you go for more HP when you rebuild? The high 80's sounds pretty fast to me.

Fastedy, Did the new drive slow you down?
