Re: Just Signed Up! Y2k Me Too!
To make a long story somewhat shorter,No prop testing yesterday  I have lost my trailer brakes on my way from LI last week. Found the back up electric selonoid leaking (not the lines) and ran out of brake fluid on the way home. Trying to blead the system and no luck, may have a bad master cylinder...Anyway I tow the boat to Norwalk, the nearest open water. I stop at a friends gas station along the way to help bleed the brakes(much easier with a second pair of hands and still no luck), so I continue to Norwalk only to find the public ramps closed till Tues due to the Oyster festival going on. I should have just went to Old Saybrook and met with Pat! I look around for other options and after a while I give up and head home to drop my boat off for outfitting of some cabin coushions. Hopefully I may get my boat sometime tomorrow. My buddy there is real busy and is gonna try and bang it out for me so the cockpit isnt bare for the shoot...Updates to follow :evilb: :evilb: :evilb:

Come on down to the river with the family tomorrow afternoon. We'll be having a raft up in Hamburg cove or at Knot Island across from Essex... :drink: Lots of kids for your son to hang with on the beach and our wives are really social... :D They are two nice stretches above Essex for some high rpm testing... :evilb: I'll be launching between 2 and 3pm. I gotta fix my trailer in the morning too... Give me a shout if you want to make the trip down. |
Re: Just Signed Up! Y2k Me Too!
My boat spent all day at the upholstry shop. Its not done yet either. He got shorted some material so we should have enough for everything I wanted to do except one back rest. A few more pieces to make but I should have most of it done by noon tomorrow :evilb:

Re: Just Signed Up! Y2k Me Too!
Where is you photo shoot today?
I'm going out to play a little tonight on the river. 90° today... Not too many of these day left in 2005... :( |

OK heres some details. I met up with Rick to do some prop testing Mon nite. As I suspected after the low speed test on Candlewood Lake, the 30p Bravo I was too much prop. We ran that to about 73-74 mph with trimming it to the moon to get the RPM's up and poor throttle response. I then tried the Hydromotive P5x 27p and was also too much prop running 71-72. Next I tried the 29p Bravo 1 that I had repaired now less about 5% blade area and we ran 76ish so I have lost a good 2 mph since the sand bar.....NOT HAPPY..... Rick and I call it a nite. I then meet up with Jim H for a great burger and some cocktails while JC is doing the paperwork for the photoshoot. I call it a nite and crash on SUPERSTITIOUS. Rick and I hook up at 6:30 am Tues to do some final detailing(Thanks again for all your help Rick!) By 7:30 were off tje the Hectshure (sp) State Park. for the Round up.

Re: Just Signed Up! Y2k Me Too!
Activatior shows up with 3 boats. The blue one with the 525(you can read about its details here in the classifieds). THe orange one with a 600 hp blower motor in it I believe. And an un-riged yellow one. THe guys from Activator were all great and I had a blast meeting and chatting with them. First Eric Colby and the photographer due there visuals and walk thru and make their notes. Next was the photo shoot, which was momentarily delayed due to a loud and grumpy park ranger who not only busted balls but made an ass of himself for no boat reg's on the yellow boat (HA! hell it wouldn't even float with the big hole in the transome  and a missing (lost ) trailer plate, telling one of the dudes from Activator he had an attitude and was being loud, when the only one I heard raising his voice was the man with the badge. By the way the other woman Park Ranger who showed up was quite nice! Then he told us we needed a permit... He gave us a # to call and Eric Colby kind of de-fused the situation, made the call and as suspected no permit was required. So off we went for the photo's The photographer wants us to head South across the bay and off we go. JC assures us there is plenty of water and guess what..........Yup....... you guessed it........Me and the Orange Activator carring the photographer end up running into the Shallows.......This time no prop damage but I cant seem to keep the damn paint on the skeg!!! After many runs up and down the bay(In the channel!) the photo session is over and its Activators turn. By the way Kryptonite doesnt show...

Re: Just Signed Up! Y2k Me Too!
Eric liked the rigging on both boats and had a bunch of positive comments and then was off for the individual test runs with his photographer for a plethera of testing while the rest of us hung at the ramp and BS'ed. Anyway the bay was dead calm and the speed #'s weren't great, Activator ran 80 with the 525 and SUPERSTITIOUS ran 77( I used the 28p Bravo 1 and Activator ran a 6blade 27p hering which somehow thru it all got a wee bit dinged (Ouch). John JR. was also on hand to liven things up and add a "little color" to the boating stories.
I for one had a great time and truely appreciated the opportunity to participate and wish to Thank Erick Colby from Speedboat and Boating for putting this together and giving Superboat some well deserved press. Thanks JC for the Invite to showcase my boat SUPERSTITIOUS which I absolutely love! And again thanks Rick for staying late and arriving early to lend me a hand :D :evilb: :drink: |

Hale Propeller here in Old Saybrook can take an inch or so of pitch out of your 30p. A friend of mine had one of his done recently with good success. They only charged him like $100... Your Boat Looks Great! JC should be kissing your butt for helping to present a great product... :drink: |
Re: Just Signed Up! Y2k Me Too!
OZ ZONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! SURE GLAD ALL WORKED OUT WELL FOR YOU !!!!! YES. I'M ALL AMPED UP FOR YOU !!!!! :evilb: :evilb: :evilb:

Re: Just Signed Up! Y2k Me Too!
Pat. I must say JC always seems to take good care of me and was "especially appreciative" ;) for helping him out. And yes he practicly did kiss my azz (which he didn't have to), who wouldn't want their boat involved, and lets just say it was beneficial to all parties concerned! All BS aside. I get along great with JC. He does dish it out at times, but he can take it too and to me that can be all part of the fun!
JC is going to send the prop to merc for me. Thanks Pat! |
Re: Just Signed Up! Y2k Me Too!
HB; Wish you could have hung around, I could have used a hand and would have liked to put a face to the name(at least you could have turned around for the photo Gary took of you on SUPERBABI)! Not sure how its gonna end up Eric did want at least 4 boats for the shoot-out, he may try to test other comparable boats at a later date. Supossedly the guy from Kryptonite's wife was unexpectedly having a baby and trying to get one of his buddies to show Eric the boat later that day/week. Eric was a bit disappointed though... As far as Progression??? Who knows.......
|
Re: Just Signed Up! Y2k Me Too!
Progression told Erick something to the fact that it was a losing proposition. It made no sense to any of us.

JC is going to send the prop to merc for me. Thanks Pat! It is great to see his little boat building business booming again; I think Rick deserves some of that credit too. I bug JC from time to time with questions about the 24' I bought second hand. Some times he's grumpy some times not. But he is always vary helpful regardless of the fact I've spent no more than $150 in his shop over the last 3 years. I just Hope Rick and JC are still building these babies at such a reasonable price when I am in a position to order a new Y2K. :drink: |
Re: Just Signed Up! Y2k Me Too!
FUNNY YOU SHOULD SAY THAT PAT ABOUT JC, I SPENT A LOT OF MONEY, DID A BOAT DEMO..................AND NOT EVEN A THANKS FROM JC.
|
Re: Just Signed Up! Y2k Me Too!
Gary, Knowing JC I'm sure he's very appreciative of it but also knowing him I dont think he'll make a call to say so. He was very busy Monday trying to put something together professional looking for Eric Colby, he was at his daughters house to the wee hours doing it up neatly on the computor(you know how his writing is) LOL! Im not sticking up for him in that regards to that, but like I said earlier you gotta have fun with it... I know you call him time to time and why not rub it in a bit... and dial it up a bit and see what you get... could be interesting. Maybe one of your pets will be wearing a Superboat t-shirt next! :evilb:

Re: Just Signed Up! Y2k Me Too!
I'M BACK!!! It took me 3 days to get home!!! :( No Sh!t!! First off the weather was cloudy and rainy most all week other than a couple peeks of sun last Wed. pretty decent Thurs and Friday. Kind of dissapointing weather-wise but still managed to have a great time with the family. I've benn spending alot of the vacation getting to get my 5 yr old son Dylan to swim. He has no problem putting his face in the water so I got him to float on the steps of the pool with his face in the water. Seems kids heads are big and as soon as he tries to swim and keep his head out of the water he azz and feet tend to sink so I bought him a diving mask and snorkle so he could keep his head in the water and his azz afloat and he was good to go and couldnt get him out of the pool!! Swiming all over the place giggling thru the snorkle all the way, what a riot! I even got him out in the coral reefs snorkling!!! I think he did better than my wife!!! Ill post some pics soon!
Anyway when trying to leave on Sat. the plane had mechanical difficulties and couldnt leave and in St Martin there are none just laying around. So American Airlines put us up for the night at a local hotel. Sunday the wind was blowing something fierce and all the larger planes were diverted and not allowed to land, meaning there were still no planes to get us outta there!! So back to the hotel again for another nights stay after spending another whole day at the airport. Finally Mon. We took a smaller turbo prop plane to San Juan and transfered planes to Kennedy and got home late Mon night. Late but safe and sound. Now playing catch-up at work. |
Re: Just Signed Up! Y2k Me Too!
Gary, glad your back safe. Sounds like you and your son did some serious bonding. :D Now as for AA they suck. Oh yea you would have made better time with your Y2K coming home !!!! Good to have you back on the board !!!!! :evilb:
