Re: How's a 572 ci gonna run?
Ya, I think I'm gonna have to sell one of the kids. It will probably be my last go-fast boat until I go cruiser mode. At least that's how I justified it with myself.

Re: How's a 572 ci gonna run?
I really would like to give JC a good reputation out here on the west banks. I'm sure he's worked hard and long. If the boat does everything right, I'll see about getting some Hot Boat magazine coverage like my American Offshore back in 97.

Re: How's a 572 ci gonna run?
Guys,
What about exhaust for this monster? I'd like to run a long tube such as Lightning headers or CMI sport tubes, Stellings. I'm told they produce about 20HP more on a natually asperated engine. Two things on my mind: Price :D CMI and Stellings are gonna be $5000+, Lightnings $3000. All stainless. Water Reversion: Where is the exhaust outlet through the transom? Below the platform? How high from the waterline? The Lightnings use a hose from the header to the exhaust tip. Therefore the water probably is in the exhaust ealier than CMI. Could cause reversion on a big cammer. Any suggestions or info based on proven set-up? |
Re: How's a 572 ci gonna run?
Hey Faster,
Did you say that you are going to use big gun mufflers? If so, I would say the Lightings would be easier to plumb. I like the fact they are 2K less too. Have you talked to Eddie Marine about the new mufflers? I talked to them about a month ago thinking I need to go with something larger than the inserts for my 502. They told me they would have a couple of new choices soon. I had been thinking captains call, but it is no longer legal in CT. |
Re: How's a 572 ci gonna run?
Pat
If I don't have to have a dry pipe as they call it, I will run the Eddie Marine Big Guns. I saw them Sunday at the show, thier sweet! If the water has to dump at the exhaust tips then I don't know what muffler I'm runnin. CP Performance said a complete custom Lightning dry stainless system is $3800. But I forgot to mention mufflers. |

|
Re: How's a 572 ci gonna run?
Well, I talked to JC. He wants to use the Stellings 12" box and raise 3" on the X dimenssion with the XR drive. Anyone have the same setup?
|
Re: How's a 572 ci gonna run?
Tom,
The the only OSO guy that has/had a 30' with an extension box is Mike (Zuperboat). His boat was originally rigged by MRD with a Neutral box and short drive. Get Mike on the phone. I know his boat was vary sensitive to prop changes. Did you ask JC if he has rigged one of his 30s with an extension box before? Knowing that these long narrow boats need "BOW LIFT", I would not want a +3" box... Remember professor Jcap's experiences... |
Re: How's a 572 ci gonna run?
I hear ya Pat. I wonder if Mike's X is the same as mine is going to be? Is it possible my hole will be lower?
Jc said he put an Merc ITS on a boat recenlty and it was too deep in the water at the standard X. |

Bad news for Faster. It looks as I may not get the 572 in until the boat gets to Calif. John is convincing me to have it installed locally so if there's any headaches I can deal with it face to face. He's going to set the Merc in there for now to rig the transom assembly and all. Maybe he's right, but I was really looking forward to Rick testing the boat for me!
|
Re: How's a 572 ci gonna run?
Faster Not Following You, You Were Going To Have Jc Put In 572 ??? Now 375 Hp ???
|
Re: How's a 572 ci gonna run?
I am buying the Merc 375 engine and drive package from John. My 572 builder was shipping the custom engine to John for installation with the merc transom assembly and XR drive.
The 375 was going to be shipped to my builder as a trade so he can put it in a customers boat as a repower. Now I guess i'll wait till the boat gets here to swap it out. Does that make sense? |
Re: How's a 572 ci gonna run?
Tom,
The up side, your going to save $$ in shipping two engines cross country. Down side, you will have to pull the 496 out and install your 572... I can see JC's side though. He doesn't want the responsibility of screwing up your high $$ engine. Your first ride is going to be at 65-70mph rather than 85-90mph; that is a bummer... :( |
Re: How's a 572 ci gonna run?

I think I just upgraded to a 600ci. Builder said only $1400 more than the 572.
802HP at 6200rpm. I'm feeling sick. I need donations for outdrives! |

802HP at 6200rpm. I'm feeling sick. I need donations for outdrives! What kind of torque is that thing going to make? You should probably plan on another 6K for a spare drive though... |
Re: How's a 572 ci gonna run?
Torque is 709@3200rpm and 773@4900rpm. I think I'm going with the XR for now. When she lets go I'll do a MAX MACHINE WORKS build up on it. I managed to make my last drive last a long time by being smart. It's called, no full throttle under 75 mph. It must make a difference.

Re: How's a 572 ci gonna run?
Just out of curiosity will Superboat build a 30' with a single SSM6? Is the engine compartment big enough to fit the trans? Thanks.
|
Re: How's a 572 ci gonna run?
I'm sure we can configure the engine compartment to fit it.
