Default SB Questions......

OK boys... You probably don't know me...yet... (Well, Krakmeup does )

I recently sold my 28 Pantera, twin 502s...mainly doe to job loss, etc...
But now I'm getting backl on my feet and am thinking "What's next?"

I've always been a SB fan...
So let's talk Y2k..if you have a minute...

I have a few questions...just to get things started.

-Is the 30 available in OB config? If so, how do they run? I would hang a pair of 275+hp Evinrudes on there (shhh, quiet about that)

-If no OBs.... I would power with a 700hp, 598 ci Mesa Engine, with Imco drive. I'd go on a box if the gains would be worth the $$. Speeds? The boat would have to run 85+.

-I'd want to go with a 1/2 cabin mainly for storage, no flippin potti!

-I boat in ROUGH water here in Ft. Lauderdale. Talk seriously about how the boat handles the honest 4-6' water (this is the ocean, not a lake). My Pantera twin handled it great for a small boat.
-How deep is the cockpit? I have never actually been in a 30 to know... Any chance of dropping the floor and running stand up bolsters? Sitting just doesn't do it in the rough.
-Are there any 30s in SE FL?????? I have yet to see one yet...

Cheers!
TIM G.

Tim,
Yes, we can make a Y2K outboard version. Made one already, runs awesome. For some reason the Y2K has an allergic reaction to Evinrudes, better stick with a Merc.
As far as dropping the cockpit floor. It''s the same as it's been with the bolsters. Talk to John, I'm sure if you want them, he can put mthem in for you.
As for speed, a Y2K with a 525 goes over 80. So a 700 should have no problem getting you in that ballpark of 85. Zuperboat and Jesse James have big motors. I think Jesse James almost did a hundred.

Fasteddy, Jcap, and Zuperboat all have 30ft Supers running well over 80mph.
Fasteddy races F1 with an HP3 and runs 83-84mph.
Jcap's boat runs over 90mph with 650-700HP.
Mike's Zuperboat (my personal favorite) has the Tempest Deck and Y2K bottom. His boat was originally rigged with 750HP and ran nearly 100...

As for the handling, they are built for the rough stuff!
I would think much more nimble than a twin engine 28' Pantera that weighs 2000lbs more.
Mike sold his 28' Pantera in favor of the Zuperboat, he'll give you the scoop...

I'm not putting down Pantera. My 28 had twins and ran best of 81 with twin 450hp,s.I abused it for 5 years and it never showed one stress crack. But it was heavy with twins at 7000lbs.More room in the cockpit having an 8ft beam.Kind of on the heavy side to trailer safely unless you have a dually. The Superboat having a narrow beam of under 7ft at the waterline cuts thru the waves better and you spend less time in the air.I did like the twins better than the single for maneuverability around the dock.Rick did make one with twin small blocks I wounder how that turned out.My boat is a tempest with a y2k bottom and yes bolsters but I never stand,or I haven't needed to yet!

z.z-
Hmmm Tempest on Y2K bottom....
How about some pics????
I have to have a stand up... sitting isn't an option here... You can in Biscayne Bay, but rarely in the ocean. I have run my share of Gladiators, and don't like sitting one bit!

The Pantera was a great boat. Yes, it was very heavy. Those twin BBs actually helped keep the drives in the water. It would go airborne, but no more than anything else. I embarrased quite a few bigger, more expensive boat owners with that 28....

I have to get in a Y2K to really see if it'll fit what I want.

I pull a 9000+ boat/trailer every day, so that doesn't really bother me...

FX- Any pictures or performance numbers on the OB Y2K you built???? (FYI- I work for Evinrude, so I'm a little bit partial.. )

Hey Tim G.
There is a guy here on the CT River with a 30' Tempest (No Steps) twin 300 Mercs.
That boat is scary fast, mid 90s I have heard...

Tim,
Jeff Gerardi "Freeze Frame Video"lives in Cape Coral Fla. He has a 30' Superboat. In the 80's with 250s. I can't ask John about the twin Y2K, he won't be back till Tues night. I'll make sure I ask him about the speed though.

Rick

PS
I was just kidding about the rudes. I have one on my boat.
