Default ReRig a classic!!

OK guys. Everyone is in LA for Tickfaw 200 and i am still trying to figure out how to rig my boat. I am putting this here cause i dont need anyone who has ever owned a boat to chime in i want to hear from the guys that know Sutphen's.

Some of you may know i bought a 1981 Outrageous 33' staggered with three man bolster set up called "Miss Maxon," Tim Ciasulli's old race boat. It was Raced in the 81-83 season in the modified class with destroked 454's and it is my understanding did pretty good. Then it sold in 84 and was run by another gentleman who changed the name of the boat to "steppin out" with a Pink Panther graffic wearing a Tuxedo.

Here is the info i have, from the last owner, with 500 bulldogs, speedmaster 2's (1:1.5 ratio) and some BIG 3 blade clevers it ran mid 80's at under 5000 rpm. With 1100 horsepower Animal motors it ran over a hundred (107 or 117 he could not remember, i figure the lower) . I believe it has always had stelling headers, crash boxes, and the drives and props that it is currently running.

Here is my question, i just dynoed two GEN V 509 blocks, 8.5 compression, and the best of everything inside ( that i wanted to afford ), although i stuck with cast heads and just ported the hell out of them, and they ran over 600 ft lbs torque down low and 600 horsepower at 5400 rpm. How should this boat run, high 80's? low 90's? Dyno numbers are generous cause we used dyno headers and no accessories and the dyno would not hold the power until we got over 4700 rpm so i dont have accurate torque numbers from the low end. (600 ft/lbs at 4700)

I also have some old school Whipple's, according to whipple they make 4 lbs of boost which is the most i would want with my heads, but i would have to get rid of my big Dart intakes to make them fit as they are set up for a factory bolt on to a mercruiser 454 or 502 intake. Do the whipples get them to 800 horsepower or 700 or somewhere in the middle and does that number break me in to the century mark cause i want to go a hundred mph?

Wstultz, i know what you think so dont hurt your fingers telling me again. i just want to hear what others have to say.

Thanks for your time and hopefully this will get some discussion going in this forum again. BTW this is just about everything i know so if you ask me pitch or x factor sorry i dont know it.

Thanks again and happy Sutphen Motoring out there. The boat belongs in the Atlantic and i want her to run good enough to justify taking her all they way there. She needs to make Key West to Bimini run just once with me behind the throttles!!!!

OH yea, i am still running Tbolt IV ignition with out a rev limiter, i know that because she spun as high as 8200 rpm on the dyno, ( she sounded beautiful but wasnt scared as the engine builder was working the throttle so she was still under warranty )

Is this system OK, if i did upgrade what would be usable in a few years when i go to aluminum heads and a whipple system with a chiller.

Thanks again

Andy,
Why not contact Sutphen with this info and get their advise. My guess is that your boat weighs about 8000 lbs rigged and will run low/mid 80's with your 600 hp motors. I think you would want to rig it for reliability for your Bimini run and add boost later.

whats up TOASTY, like your boat. i will take a pic but X-factor couldnt be changed, those staggered drives are as low as they could possibly go.

I am trying to download video of the boat racing, 31 feet out of the water and 2 feet in, previous owner said only boat he has ever seen could run around long island with tide out when nothing else but flat bottom fishing boats were moving around.
