I've read that there was more to the story, but never any elaboration. I've been curious.

The picture of GA was taken from the dock at East Dover Marina on Fisher Blvd Toms River.
It was the Barnegat Bay Race 1980.

Thanks, I wasn't sure when I took those pictures. My father always thought the world of Bill Gazell as a racer.

I have some more from the Pt. Pleasant race too, with the Fayva Cigarette, and a Velocity raceboat too, I will try to get them posted in the classic section.

I rescanned the one blurred Sutphen: the boat was named "Piccabilly Filly" I do not remember this boat at all, and I was usually OK in remembering boats. You have to click on the photo to get a better view, I was by far no Tim Sharkey when it comes to photo taking...

Smarty...... That pic was when I owned the Sutphen, thats me in the pic
Bill & I raced The Black Viper in 1980 on the national circuit
In the all the club races that year he raced his Viper & I raced my Sut.
Bill is one of the greats when it comes to boat racing for sure.

The pic of Piccadilly Filly was Gene Whipps old Intimidator

Thanks but I have tons of pics, a suitcase full of boat pics from back in the day

We broke the bottom open in a Florida race in 1981...Almost sunk it. I had to put it up on the beach to keep it from going down.
Had it repaired but the boat lost almost 8 miles per hour, it was never the same again.
I sold the boat to a guy in New England.

Steve Berk....aka....Lucky Strike
