Pulled the other engine yesterday and have it on a stand waiting for the other one to be built. I am waiting on the crank to come back from Kiwi engineering, its being ground .010 over then i will be able to put everything back together. I picked up some Hypereutectic flat top pistons from Summit that i am going to be putting in the block.
Ill let you know what about the heads. For now i think i am going to run what i have and perhaps after the first few times out ill see how it preforms and then maybe swap them. I have to start somewhere. I appreciate the offer. Based on what the previous owner said it, it should be in the high 60s. I'll try to post some pics tonight. |

Do any of you guys run this type of remote oil filter? It seems like it would be messy while doing an oil change. Or does the oil drain from the filter when you drain the oil from the pan?
|
Can you turn the mount sideways so the oil can drain out when the oring breaks the seal and it can be drained into a funnel or something. Whats the latest on the heads?

haven't had time to work on the engine. Last weekend I worked on the bilge and got that preped and painted. I ordered a new comp cam and hydraulic lifters so i will get the most out of the heads. thanks again paul. I will let you know how the build goes this weekend and if we are able to fire it up.

Did that carburetor deal work out ? I found another set of mercruiser chrome valve covers in michigan picked em up for 50 plus shipping new old stock.

WOW ! I put together all the Sutphen boats from 1985 to 1989. The 26's were big with Joe and we made a bunch. They had everything that you could think of for drives. Most were O/Bs with brackets for two or three engines. We put Arneson's and Kama drives. What ever the customer wanted. I don't remember 2x350's and TRS drives. They were the bread and butter for the 420's

Yeah picked up th carbs for 180. Haven't got them in the mail yet but hopefully this week. I got the long block built today so I might be able to fire it up tomorrow.

some guys dont like Hyperutectics but for a boat they might be a good Idea.
When we raced ATV's we had alot of problems keeping pistons in them. I owned 4 Play ATV and I figured out that guys would come in from a moto let the bike cool down and then be late for the LCQ. So theyd jump on it and rip down to the starting line. Well the piston was cold and beating itself to death in the bore because forged pistons expand with heat and run loose cold tolerances. We switched to Hyper's and I poly molly coated the sides and Gold coated the tops and ran super tight clearance. guys were then getting two seasons on a piston in a 2 stroke 250R. It was un heard of at the time. Boats tend to run cold alot so the hypers may have better oil retention too helping keep detonation at bay. I am sure you know all this but be careful with overlap on a boat cam. |
