I have a couple of rookie qustions for you:
What is the difference between the ssm #2 drive and the #3?
I have a trs drive/merc II trans now (running 625hp thru it). Would the #2 or the #3 be a direct replacement/upgrade for it?

The #2 would bolt up to your Gimbal ,,the #3 is much newer and stronger then the #2 but needs diffrent Gimbal,,,also running a MercII with 600+ HP is tuff, but all depends on Boat size and weight .

The #2 is basicly a TRS upper with a speedmaster style lower.

If u whant to bullet proof it i would take the #3 with Gimbal and a BW Tranny.

Changing the Gimbals is not a big deal if u go from TRS to SSM since the SSM Gimbal is a little bigger,,only if u go from TRS to Bravo Transom needs to be filled in.

Doesn't the engine need to be moved forward a few inches to make room for the longer BW trans?

Not shure,,,??? I quess u got a point unless the bellhousing is diffr. ????!!!!

However, for a bw trans I would need to move the engine.
