The red dot indicates an XR bearing having a slight offset to provide clearance for the larger u - joint and yoke assy.The standard bearings have a black dot.

To answer your question ... I don't know for sure ...

The new bearings have no color in the dot. They can be used for all drives. And you can not grease them. Like said above they came out with the X series of drives. I am going to guess around 2002. I can check a service buliten at home if you really have to know
