Default search problems

The search feature does work. I have not tried a single word search as described above, I used to be able to multiple word searches and that feature was valuable on tech problems.

Please fix

You should be good here now. We've increased the amount of memory available to the application, so it's able to handle larger result sets now. There are still going to be certain words that will cause errors when used in queries, but such errors should be greatly reduced.

One of the inherent weaknesses of vBulletin search is that it implicitly sticks the word "OR" in between all the words in your query. Consequently, the result set is going to include at least as many posts as the most popular word in the query. So if I search for something "blue birds", the result set will include ALL posts that have EITHER word instead of just posts with both words. This means that the search application needs to be able to handle many more posts than we'd intuitively think it would. I understand why they did it that way (it's much easier to write the code for it), but it leads to problems when a forum starts to get larger. We're looking at a couple of different search applications that remove some of these problems, and we'll keep you up to date as we get closer to trying one or the other out on OSO.

Please keep us up to date if you keep seeing blank pages when you search, though. The more information we have, the better. Thanks.
