As far as the Telephone co., not to totally hijack this thread, but what you describe is a relatively new occurrence. Same with the cable TV guys. Once the Dish guys started taking big bites out of their asses, they basically came out and publicly apologized for being pr.icks for years and promised to change.
Anyway- you are right in that corporate can be pr1cks, when you get mad enough they will throw you a bone and keep you around. Kind of sounds like IB to me as well- corporate mentality- not picking on IB but was trying to get back on topic...

I find myself spending less time on here simply due to the frustration of the sloooooow crawl. Yet, I have absolutely no interest in Boatfreaks whatsoever. Nor any of the other sites.
I still enjoy all the people who are on here, but they're slowly going away as well. I used to have a feeling of being a part of OSO, but now, OSO means about as much to me as the telephone company- a faceless, charachter-less means of connection that couldn't care one bit if I slipped off the face of the Earth
I guess the best way for this to change is if all the advertisers stop- then maybe they'll make some feeble attempt at addressing the problem.

Incredible amount of info available here, and some of the greatest historians of offshore boating/racing. They should know, they were there, they created it, and they lived it.
Non-boaters, or other people that don't understand my addiction to this "sport" just think I'm a dork because I was excited to shake the hand of the man that built my boat 28 yrs ago, and have picture standing next to him.
I think that's pretty cool.

Chris was right months ago (couple times since too) when he stressed that it is the members that make it go.
I wasn't going to re-up.... but the guys up around Charlevoix were being so generous of spirit when I said that I was heading up that way... it was an easy decision to re-up so that we could make plans via PM.
Glad that I did, just when I thought OSO was about done, I feel like I made a bunch of new friends. That potential is still there.
I did decide to get a super fast connection last week, and it does help. The way I see it, IB is broken. OSO is still there.
