I have talked to some genuine Merc guys and they say the new computers will actually advance all the way to 38*. THey run them at WOT on the water with the diagnostic computer hooked up.
Leave the props until you get it all squeezed out of the motor.

Try the timing first. If it doesn't seem like it is going to do any good, back it down so you don't detonate. What ignition are you using?
