Just borrowed a dodge 2500 with diesel to see how it compared to my expedition towing. Big difference. My question is how much different are the ford and chevy diesels? Anyone have a dodge and switch to ford or chevy?

I've driven and worked on all 3 extensivley. First off, and no offense to anyone here, stay far away from the Dodge. Don't get me wrong the Cummins is a good motor but it is stuck in the past and it does have some problems that have gone unadressed for years now. The Dodge truck in my opinion isn't even in the same class as the other two right now. Ford and Chevy have both stepped up to the plate big time and are building some quality stuff. I have been a Ford guy all my life and when I was buying a new truck late last year I had to take a good hard look at the Duramax and the 6.0L Ford. I opted for the Ford but mainly becuase I wanted an F-550 and Chevy doesn't really build anything comparable, you have to go bigger like a top kick, and I still wanted a pickup truck, just a big one
The Fords and Chevs both have there ups and downs. Both engines are unbeleievable. Chevy has an edge with the trans, but Ford is closing the gap on that one. Beyond that it really comes down to decideing what interior amenitied you want and figuring out wich manufacturer buils a truck that suits your needs.

This thread is going to get good.
I think Hillbilly summed it up pretty good IMO. I work on about thirty of these trucks a week right off the showroom floor. All are good rigs in their own right. I just think the GM and Ford stand out a little more.
Dodge is getting ready to address the Crew Cab issue pretty soon. From what I've seen they may just go from the smallest to the largest cab if the rumors are true. This should help their market share a good bit.
Been a GM man my entire life. Stepped up and bought a Ford this time around. I can honestly say I haven't had any regrets to date. I feel like the GM is more of a Cadillac compared to the Ford. But I also feel like the Ford will do well in the resale market. Resale is gonna be tough on the Dodge. Although the up front cost of the truck is much cheaper too.
Good luck either way. Your gonna get some hard core one sided opinions on this topic no matter which team you play for.

My Excursion is a 2000 with a Powerstroke, leather, 4x4, all the options and I bet I could get 25k or better for it on the street and it would sell fast. I couldn't give our 2004 Yukon away for less than 20K. We traded it in and took a beating on it. Gm is offering so many rebates and incentives that the've devalued there resale value tremendously. It's too good of a deal to buy a new one over a used late model one. So as far as resale goes, Gm and Dodge are pretty bad in comparison to the Ford. Maybe the Duramax holds it's value a little better?
BTW, I had a quad cab dodge with a Cummins, total pile of crap.....

Before I bought my truck, I looked at all 3. I liked the way the new Dodge dually looked but was questionable about the transmission. The Chevy and Ford both are great trucks. I bought the Ford.

On the topic of Dodge, they really just haven't kept up with the pickup trend lately. For a long time all three manufactures were cuilding trucks for guys who liked to drive em to the office everyday. Over the past 6-7 years Ford and Chevy have stepped up and started building work trucks again and Dodge is still building pleasure trucks, they just don't hold up. I don't know a single person that has purchased a Dodge i the last 5 years and been happy with it. They wait until the first moment that they can afford to sell it and buy something else. This isn't a brand loyalty thing either, I am a Ford guy but I'm trying to speak honstly here. The Dodge's just have a host of problems including electrical, front end, transmission, and long term engine reliabilty. Just go close the tailgate of a new Dodge truck, it only weight like 10 pounds. A friend of mine set a half pallet of block on his and it crumpled under the weight, I have had 6,000 pounds on mine and it held up. It's the little things, the interiors are chincy in the Dodge. They look nice initially but they fall apart quick, mirrors fall off, seat heaters quit working, arm rest hinge breaks, they just aren't a working mans truck. I think i have said enough on this one. Ya'll have fun.

It's a good thing if you are looking to buy a new GM, it's bad if your looking to sell a used one. The Excursion was also the "big daddy" of the bunch, I don't know what it is about it but it just seems like more of an animal then the Suburbans ever have to me.

I do like the new Chevy HD trucks, but I will wait till the Duramax has been on the market for a while before I consider one. I have owned primarily Chevy and Dodge products, got burnt by two Fords and have never been back to them.
