Be aware. The bolts that ship with the Putnam XDR hitch are Grade 5. I upgraded all of mine to Grade 8. Its worth the time to track them down.
I am on my 2nd Putnam XDR (on 2nd truck). Great hitch. |

Re: Pintle Hitch
Thanks again for the info. There is an industrial nut and bolt place nearby. I will go there and get the grade 8 hardware.

In order to get the full load carrying capacity of the Putnam XDR, you have to use the square collars that come with the new bolts of the Putnam. There is a square collar for the top and bottom of each bolt. If you use these like you are supposed to, the factory bolts are not long enough to use instead of the Putnam grade 5 bolts. The factory bolts are more convienent though, since the nuts are welded to a fixed bar. Again, its best to have new grade 8 bolts long enough to use the square collars on north and south sides of each bolt. Its 5000 times easier (in the case of a Ford) to R&R the hitch if you remove the under frame mounted spare tire first. |

Forget it I would not even attempt it. I went and got the Ten wheeler mack to bring it to the gas station. Im gonna grab a Single axle Pete or a w900 KW. |
Re: Pintle Hitch
FYI- If you weld on a Gr. 8 bolt, it's no longer Gr. 8. It's not even going to hold Gr. 5 specs.

Re: Pintle Hitch
Why don't you guys make your own hitches around here....these recievers are lots of junk from what I see..get fabbing yourself....have a welder beef up the reciever to frame support.....I see lots of sagging pintles and hitches....somebody post a pic of the best reciever on the market so far.

OK, I now have the XDR on but what is everyone doing for their plug? I use my factory plug on different trailers and there is no where to attach it to the XDR.
