Default Electric brake problem, brakes come on with left blinker

My trailer brakes had been working fine.

Went to tow a few weeks ago and noticed trailer brakes were activated when I used the left directional. On and off with the blinker.

Then when I hit the brake pedal the trailer brakes come on but do not come off when I get off the brake pedal!

They also were being activated when I turned on the parking lights. Now it has stopped doing that.

I re-did the taillights on the truck with LEDs and tapped into the trailer harness for power. This set up has been fine and I have trailered like this without problems. However I did disconnect all the lights and found they are not the problem.

I launch it in saltwater. Could it be a problem at the brakes? They do work, but could there be a short?

Could my Podigy brake controller be shot?

Could the truck's wire harness be faulty? It's a 2006 Avalnche with 7500 miles.

Is it a bad ground somewhere? I just re-did the stereo. Ripped out the Bose junk and installed new head unit and amps. Didn't notice if the problem started after this installation.

A test light shows weak power at the brake post on the truck receptical when left blinker is on.

Any help is appreciated. I'm tired of chasing my tail!

Sounds like a bad ground.I greased my trailer ball once and all my lights started acting up like what you described.I added a ground wire from trailer to truck and removed grease from ball, now it works perfect again.I now use dielectrical grease on the ball just in case.

There is a ground in the truck harness and connects to the trailer and also to the brakes.

I had that issue a few years ago on my sub and it was because of the way that I wired the system. I tied the brake power into the right brake light which also turned out to be the right turn signal. Brake would work fine if the signal was not used but would pulse if right signal was used. I had to find the lead for the center brake light and then everything was fine.

Just something to check.

I just reread your post and it does sound like a ground problem.

Good luck.

Makes sense, but what bothers me is the brakes do not come off when I remove my foot from the pedel.

had this happen. check the tail lights if sealed beamed connectors and clean flush with electic cleaner the put the grease in them. Also at the plug part pull the screws out and chect to make sure that no wires are sticking out in the connector ends. When it happened to us it was at the sealed beam plug harness from the water corosion making it "arc".

Found the problem. I grounded the brake box to a different spot. I have not hooked the trailer up but so far problems are gone. Thanks for the help.
