Tow vehicle options

I'm thinking of moving towards a larger boat in the near future... probably around 10k lbs plus trailer. What are some good options for a tow vehicle that can pull such a heavy load? I like the space of a SUV, so I don't know if I'd like the confines of a pickup....

I would suggest a diesel crew cab pickup or a diesel Ford Excursion.

Chevy 2500 Suburban w/ 8.1L gas
GMC 2500 Yukon XL w/ 8.1L gas
Chevy 2500 Avalanche w/ 8.1L gas
Ford Excursion w/ V10 gas or 6.0 PSD or 7.3 PSD

03-05 EXCURSION WITH A 6.0 POWERSTROKE PULLS A LOAD GREAT AND WHEN YOU ARE NOT TOWING THE FUEL MILEAGE IS GREAT I AVERAGE 16-18 NOT TOWING THAT IS 75-85 ON THE HWY NOT TO MENTION THE RANGE THE FUEL TANK IS 45 GALLONS :drink:

Or perhaps the Dodge MegaCab 2500 or 2500.

So basically, if I want an "SUV" I have to go several years used as they don't seem to make them anymore with strong engines. Otherwise, I can get a pickup of any sort.

A vehicle with a positrac rear end at the least. 4wd would be better for that weight on a ramp.

Naturally I would recommend a 06/07 Duramax/Allison powered pickup as it is the most powerful and reliable power-train combination at the moment. I may be biased though, out pulling and out dragging my buddies Ford's and Dodge's has distorted my perception :evilb:

I have 2 diesel Excursions. 10K is alot to pull with one. Stock they are kind of mushy and have ther tendency to wander. I put Superduty suspension and Firestone air bags under both. It helped alot. Still not nearly as stable as pulling with a dually. I've seen a couple of dually conversions on Excursions but that sort of shoots it for a daily driver.

How are the big pickups when used as a daily driver? If I go with one of them, I'll have to drive it daily in the wintertime. Any issues with snow in the bed? Or do most just cover the bed with something?

Synack- The 2006 Suburban or GMC Yukon XL w/ the 8.1 liter engine can be had real cheap right now and have the power. They have a 12000 lb towing capacity. They are hard to find, don't build many- use www.gmbuypower.com. I have the Avalanche version, that works also.
The Excursion is being killed by Ford, but has the diesel- Stay AWAY from the V10 gas in the Excursion -IMHO it's a Pig motor.

I think GM will offer a diesel SUV in 2009 or so.

Buy American
