03-up dodge cummins exhaust

What exhaust are you 3rd generation cummins owners using? I love the sound of a 2nd gen truck....big rig sound, but these 3rd gen truck sound like a pontiac v6 when you pipe'em.

you really want to hear the turbo whine....? There is a silencer ring that you can take off. I am considering removing the cat, and adding a dynomax race muffler with full 5" pipes all the way.

I removed the cat and replaced the stock muffler with a MBRP muffler. Since the stock exhaust was already 4 inches (2005)it was a direct replacement. Huge improvement in the sound and the turbo spooled up much quicker. I also noticed lower EGT readings.

I believe MBRP has a 4" dual exhaust setup for the Cummins. I own a 2003 3500 quad cab so I'll be looking for duals I like that look better.

OK, with the cat removed and a muff only...do you get the 2nd generation cummins sound similar to a peterbilt?

It did sound much closer to my 2001, if you take into account the lack of injection pump sound. It was a nice tone but not over the top. I have another friend that is running his 2005 straight pipe with no cat or muffler and it sounds horrible. The MBRP muffler on mine really made it sound nice, especially when accelerating.
Here is a sound clip of a single pipe turbo back system on a 2003 pulling away.

Here is the "Cool Duals" on a 2003 pulling away.

Damn that is a lot of smoke.
It sounds like a 2nd gen truck, but can't tell from the video. I don't think you can make a 3rd gen sound just like a 2nd generation maily because the HPCR system makes for a quieter engine combustion wise, but getting rid of the stock muffler and replacing it with a hi-flow aftermarket piece will get you going in the right direction.

the truck is an 03' w/ a lot of goodies. Just wondering if the aftermarket cam and electronics this guy did makes the truck sound so mean(throwty).
