That being said just because you can do it does not make it legal. You are committing tax evasion.

To be honest. For me its not about the money. i'd be happy to pay MD's 5% sales tax on it. I'm trying to commit Maryland DMV evasion.

I went in there, sat in line for an hour and half to get up to the woman and tell her i wanted to title my trailer and get tags. She asked for the title and i told her that it was never registered by the previous owner, but presented her with the green dealers certificate and my bill of sale. She told me "No title, no tags".

I explained my case to her again. She repeated, now in a raised voice, "You're not getting tags until you show me a title!" I asked for a manager and she told me I needed to "get out of her DMV and come back when i had a title." I finally got a hold of a manager, explained the situation and she told me pretty much the same thing and seemed highly annoyed that i would bother her with such an issue. (mind you, I was completely polite up until this point and in shock of how i was being treated. People around me also had their jaws dropped over the situation.) finally I told them "f*ck this place, i just won't use plates."

Now i've calmed down and realize that i need to get plates, but i'm done with those 10th grade education yocals at the DMV.

Hence the interest in Maine plates.

It is easy up this way. Took me about 15 min to get my snowmobile registration and pay for my home taxes last saturday. You will have ZERO issues with doing it. My brother had a Camero that he did not have a title for. He paid a company like that after I had told him a bunch of times that I would do it in Maine. When he got the plates from the comapany he paid.... you guessed it Maine Plates.

Its not the one my friend was talking about. But it sounds very similar. I think i'm going to try this route.

Here's a link for anyone else with similar issues.

If you have a bill of sale from the original owner the trailer manufacturer should be able to issue you a certificate of origin. If not you may have to go the home made route. They will issue you a serial plate as long as it has been MD inspected. Granted this way is a PITA if the boat is on the trailer.

You can also get a "homemade" registration and title from MD. There is an application and you need a pic of it and likely it needs to be inspected, then they issue you a title and a vin number.

Found this form and it looks like what you need. http://www.marylandmva.com/Resources/VR-008.pdf
Did you see this when you went to DMV?

I think the first form I posted is not correct but check out this link http://www.marylandmva.com/AboutMVA/...memade_trailer

Also I would see if any of the title agents in your county can help instead of dealing with the bad attitudes at the DMV office. http://www.marylandmva.com/VehicleSe...itleagents.htm

That looks to be for a homemade trailer though. I'm not sure they'd go for it since its obviously built by a manufacturer.
