The only thing I've seen that will actually stop the boat from jumping the bow stop is a loop that is welded to the frame that goes up and over the bow of the boat. Tears up the bow of the boat in the case of an accident and strap failure, but it beats the hell out of having a 12,000 lb backpack. Got a pic of one "working" somewhere I'll have to find and post.
