Is the 90' K5 an EFI motor?
|
I think it's TBI

What's your budget? You could probably get yourself into an early model Jeep Grand Cherokee for that kind of coin, be better on gas mileage, and great 4x4 capability. Plus, if you can find with the I6, you'll have a motor you can't kill. Their V8's weren't too bad either, but you'd be better of with the I6 with the 242 transfercase so you can select 2WD, 4PT, 4FT, and 4LO.

I had a 79 K-5 as my first truck...tore it down to frame and redid the whole truck one winter just out of highschool....i loved it! But in the end it sold her since the rust was just out of controll. I now have a 1996 full size blazer/tahoe I still wish they had the removable tops on them! If it was me i would be looking for a 90 or 91 model....last years with the remoaveable tops and efi...still plenty of nice ones around.

I bought Jeep Cherokees for both of my teens, real reliable and easy to fix if needed. 1997 models on up have EFI and air bags with optional ABS. My daughter previously had a Taurus, that got totaled in a wreck with an uninsured ambulance

My first car was a 1997 Ford Escort 4 door. Then I stepped up to my GC. HUGE difference between the two, especially the ABS, PW, PL, etc. Jeeps are easy to work on, fairly cheap to repair, and are fun capable rigs. XJ's (Cherokees) are great rigs too, but the lack of room in the back seat turned me off.

Bad gas mileage and easy rollovers. Other than that, they're as reliable as claw hammers.

K5's or Jeep XJ's |
92-95 Blazers were very weak on power. 1996 they changed to 2-door Tahoes and introduced the Vortec 350. MUCH better powerplant. I had a 1996 2-door Tahoe LT and LOVED THAT TRUCK! REGRET SELLING IT! 1996 had a single drivers air-bag. 1997-1999 are the only other years for 2-door Tahoes, and there were no changes from 1996 other than dual front airbags.

Example: http://www.carsearch.com/768214.htm My parents looked at the first little Cherokees, but I luckily got them to order a Grand Wagoneer (85), without the wood panels....... |
