how far are you going to tow with it?
if your pump guy is any good at all the pump wont be a problem....thats been solved with the newer updated pumps.
a 6.5 is severly limited breathing in and when towing .......this translates to excessive EGT .......open up the intake inlet down by the headlight and put a K&N filter in the stock housing and put a 4" exhaust on it and mandrel bent crossover pipe......this will "free up" the truck and the motor will thank you

Thanks for the tip! I only have to tow about 5 miles to the ramp, but I like to try and get to Florida at least once a year. The guy I got it from took the catalytic conerter out so that may help on the exit end. I gonna look into a K&N intake. The truck is absolutely stock other than that. One owner.

I had a `96 Silverado with the 6.5 Turbo Diesel. It was a total pig. Could hardly pull my boat and under load, up hills, it would really puff the blackest smoke you`ve ever seen. At 118K miles, I yanked the 6.5 / 4L80E and dropped in a 454 / 4L60. My gas mileage dropped by 2 mpg, but power increased 100%.

to be honest, my 94 3/4 ton 4x4 Sub only tows the boat....Im serously thinking about getting a real clean earlier straight axle 4x4 Sub (70s 80s) 3/4 ton turbo 400 with a 454.......you see them on ebay......something you can work on yourself!.......had to change both front wheel bearing assys last yr on my 94.......$1200!!! .......used to change wheel bearings myself in my old Blazer for $45 a side!.......gear change for bigger wheels in my truck.....forget it......straight axles......$500.......I could go on and on

I have a 2000 Classic K2500 4X4 with a 454/auto. I tow a 25 Active Thunder. K&N filter.....stock.......I got 10.1 MPG on a tow to the Jammin on the James run. Had the cruise control on at 65-70 the whole time on 95 and it never missed a beat and downshifted maybe twice. I was pretty friggin happy with that!!

I pulled my my boat yesterday. It looked like a train taking off, but once I got up to speed it did great. I guess I wont win any races with it. At least I dont have to call a buddy or borrow a truck to move the boat.
