Gentlemen-- I quit posting on this thread awhile ago because after actually answering the ORIGINAL question with my opinion of the truck as an actual user/owner it seemed to turn almost personal between people who like the truck and those that dont. If you dont like the truck dont buy one but dont act as if anyone who has one and tows something big is "not in his right mind".

There is a 2001 Kenworth W900 down the road for sale with only 340k miles. It is gorgeous with polished aluminum wheels all around and tons of chrome and stainless. I called and the guy is asking 58K (negotiable). I know the company and their maintenance is meticulous. The problem is it is set up for heavy hauling with a Signature 600 HP 15 liter and an 18 speed. I think I'm going tow my boat with it and see how it rides. Surprisingly the owner of the company had his new f450 parked next to it and it wasn't dwarfed.

That sounds like it would get about 4 mpg highway. I think it is way too much truck for any trailable boat but I'm sure a lot of the guys on here would disagree.

I finally towed my boat with the 2008 Ford F450. It towed very well and felt smooth and well controlled. It worked up a few steep hills but most importantly, it pulled it out of a crappy ramp with ease and felt well controlled at highway speeds, even when a few idiots cut in front of me.

What is the weight of your set up? Has it been weighed, or are going by published weights?

Thanks,

Steve

Just over 21K on Cat scale (boat and trailer). Estimated dry weight from fountain is 14.5 for the boat and Myco says just over 5K for the trailer.

Thanks Fountain. My Harley weighs in about 19,000 with trailer. I am very interested in the F-450. Seems like it would be more practical than a dedicated tow rig.

I just towed my boat to Lake Michigan yesterday with a new f450. It was in heavy interstate traffic around Chicago. It did very well, felt controlled and smooth throughout the trip and easily slipped the trailer under the boat and pulled it out on a steep ramp.
