Yep, the CPS. well-known issue for many, many years....I wonder why now all of a sudden they're pulling a recall.

CYA by Ford. You put a recall out on an item, it may help you in the eyes of the courts if there are lawsuits due to accident, fatalities, etc. The original CPS's were pure junk and have been a common problem for a long time. It can be a handful if one fails at speed pulling a load. Luckily, they rarely fail that way, giving intermittent problems i.e. no start, dying after starting etc. prior to failure. Replacements used to be well over $100, the new ones of improved design and from a different vendor (the one you will get installed when showing up at your Ford dealer for this recall) are about $25. I haven't had one fail, but I keep one in my glovebox- not at all hard to change on the road if needed. It's still a great engine with incredible reliability. IMHO, the recall is long overdue.

Yes, I completely agree. I kept spare CPSs like lightbulbs in my old truck. It's a very well known issue and has been for a long time. The timing of this recall is very strange though. Considering, I'm sure there have been millions of CPS replacements at Ford dealerships, and now that the engine is about 5 years out of production, a new recall.....

And yes, vendor swap fixed the failures.
