2005 Duramax here. 59,000 trouble-free miles with only oil changes, one transmission service and fuel filter change. The biggest shock to me is that it gets over 17 mpg and that is combined highway and city driving. A little over 20mpg on the highway.

06 Dmax/Allison, 19.5 wheels and tires, Mag Hytec trans pan and dif cover, cold air intake, Edge Attidue with Juice and A piller display. Pulls either boat just fine.

I call my truck a Ford Powerstroke proudly. You need to call it a chevy truck with a rice burning izsuz in it. Not a duramax.
A jap diesel in a chevy truck should be an embarassment.

the rental they give you while that Ford is in the shop getting a new turbo or set of heads should be embarrassing too

Bought a new 1992 f350 diesel 5 speed . Has 365k has never been back to the shop. Changed belt once, front brakes once, still the orginal clutch. The 03 F350 i bought hasnt had one problem either. knock on wood.

I do believe that Isusu (spelling) was one of the first if not the first to invent the diesel. Correct me if wrong.

I would be somewhat careful bashing the Japanese automakers. They have been more innovative, and more inspirational than the american companies.

Not to mention that they didnt just post a loss of 38.7B USD.

I don't disagree that when it comes to Diesel Trucks the American brands are the ONLY options - no matter Ford, Dodge or Chevy, but I don't think bashing japanese brands is fair - especially since they make SO many of their cars on American soil.

Look at all of the "neat" cars they have made over the last 2 decades - Supra, RX7, RX8, 300ZX, 350Z, 3000GT, S2000 - not to mention their foray's into the Hybrids. Like it or not these cars have defined the last decade and a half, and much of the performance industry this day. Whereas in reality All America had done is stick to the tried and true - Corvette, Camaro, Mustang. They have not been innovative, they have not been forward thinking, and the truth of the matter is there was a long time (until the C5 vette came out), that the Supra, RX-7, Twin Turbo Z, and VR4 3000GT dominated, in every way, the corvettes of the era - From asthetics to performance.

I am not trying to start anything here but you have to be objective about what Japan has provided - a lot of creativity and a raising of the bar.

Last time I checked the current GM diesels are all assembled in Flint, Michigan. ALL cars have parts made outside of the country they are assembled in. As long as the package of the parts run good and the truck is assembled by American union workers I can sleep good.

It takes five times the people to manufactuier make the parts, as it does to assemble parts. Its an economic war. In 60 years will it be ok to have bin ladin motor in your grandkids truck. Tthink obout it.
