Why not Duramax???
So many posts about the Fords, does anyone pull with 07 or 08 Duramax trucks????
|
i have a 2007 3500 duramax and it pull's great . i pulled my 38 sonic with it now i have a 35 baja . no problem mon :cool-smiley-027:
|
That is all i do is pull boats. The duramax will out pull the fords all day long. Plus they don't break down. My ford was always in the shop for something.
|
|
dmax all the way!
|
07, pulling 38AVS Scarab. Guess when they do a great job and don't break, there is not alot to talk about.
|
06 HD2500 that replaced my 02PSD and that was a good move.
|
110K on my 03 and so far it needed tires, batteries and a water pump (at 106K). Still has factory brakes.
|
Why not Duramax?......
Cause they're so damn ugly!!! LOL!!!! |
The duramax has been the truck to buy for the last 5 years.
Unless of course you like breaking down, or driving a dodge. (I own a 2000 f-350 7.3). So its not brand loyalty, its just the reality of a really superior drive train. |
'03 LB7 with 130k........all I do is change oil every 5k, fuel filter every 15k, trans filter every other oil change, and turn the key when I want to go somewhere. ZERO problems with it.
|
06 LBZ here. Great truck.
|
good one

I'll have to agree the older ones were ugly, but I like the 07s and 08s.
|
Nothin is better than a cummins motor....would be a great fit into a chevy with a solid front axle.

06 Duramax, 62k miles, worked hard every day, nothing but fuel and filters except for a sticky egr valve at 12k miles, I think.
|
I love my '06. Easily pulls the 386 Sonic
|
I've been running an '04 LB-7 for 4yrs now and it's towed lots of boats with no problems. Never done anything but tires, oil, and fuel filter 70K mi. It's a 2500HD and it pulls better than our shops F-550 w/ 7.3.
|
Our 07 pulls great with zero problems (of course I've only got 15k miles on it so far).
I think whoever said that you don't see much posted about them 'cause they just keep running is right on... Ford owner's have a lot to talk about, like how to fix their truck :evilb: |
We pull with an 07 Duramax classic DRW. With boat full of gas, lots of gear, and 5 guys in the truck we grosses 25k on the scales. Pulled 1100 miles from punta gorda, FL to Indianapolis, IN. No problem
|
I have a 04.5 2500HD. I changed the water pump at 130k. Kinda pricey, $850 parts & labor.
I like the truck better than the F-250 I also have. Both are due to be replaced. I think I'll go with a new Duramax. Anyone know what mileage the new stuff is getting? |
2005 with 48,000 miles and only been to the shop for one repair. All other trips were for standard maintenance. Pulls great on the road. Hard to beat!
|
I like them ...great puller..and they have been turning alot of miles now....so people can no longer say there to new to be proven...very nice to see a piece that has not been changed over the years....

That's about what mine gets around town. I get about 18 on the highway if I keep it under 70. Speed kills the mileage on mine. It goes down to 16.5 or so at 75 and up to 18+ at 55-60 if I can stand driving around that slow.
With the current diesel formulas, I doubt you can do much better with any other brand of truck (maybe a MPG or two in similar trucks and driving conditions). There's no way a new Ford or Dodge with the same fuel is going to do much better and a diesel will still easily out-MPG a gasser pulling the same weight around. Gearing can make a difference, but will affect towing ability. Good luck in your quest for MPG's. (at least that's what it appears you're after) :ernaehrung004: John |
How much for the 08?

Thats a good deal right there!

I towed my 38 Donzi zx with my 2002 Duramax and it was such a great truck for me that I bought another one brand new that was identical color and options in 2004. Never had any mechanical issues other than brakes and typical preventive maintenance. I did tow the boat a few times with a 2006 Dodge Cummins which had just as much power but did not tow as solid as the GMC, just my .02!!!

2005 Duramax here. 59,000 trouble-free miles with only oil changes, one transmission service and fuel filter change. The biggest shock to me is that it gets over 17 mpg and that is combined highway and city driving. A little over 20mpg on the highway.

06 Dmax/Allison, 19.5 wheels and tires, Mag Hytec trans pan and dif cover, cold air intake, Edge Attidue with Juice and A piller display. Pulls either boat just fine.

I call my truck a Ford Powerstroke proudly. You need to call it a chevy truck with a rice burning izsuz in it. Not a duramax.
A jap diesel in a chevy truck should be an embarassment. |

:Whatever: |
Bought a new 1992 f350 diesel 5 speed . Has 365k has never been back to the shop. Changed belt once, front brakes once, still the orginal clutch. The 03 F350 i bought hasnt had one problem either. knock on wood.
ive got a toyota with a izusu diesel, I mean a duramax. |
I do believe that Isusu (spelling) was one of the first if not the first to invent the diesel. Correct me if wrong.

A jap diesel in a chevy truck should be an embarassment. Not to mention that they didnt just post a loss of 38.7B USD. I don't disagree that when it comes to Diesel Trucks the American brands are the ONLY options - no matter Ford, Dodge or Chevy, but I don't think bashing japanese brands is fair - especially since they make SO many of their cars on American soil. Look at all of the "neat" cars they have made over the last 2 decades - Supra, RX7, RX8, 300ZX, 350Z, 3000GT, S2000 - not to mention their foray's into the Hybrids. Like it or not these cars have defined the last decade and a half, and much of the performance industry this day. Whereas in reality All America had done is stick to the tried and true - Corvette, Camaro, Mustang. They have not been innovative, they have not been forward thinking, and the truth of the matter is there was a long time (until the C5 vette came out), that the Supra, RX-7, Twin Turbo Z, and VR4 3000GT dominated, in every way, the corvettes of the era - From asthetics to performance. I am not trying to start anything here but you have to be objective about what Japan has provided - a lot of creativity and a raising of the bar. |

Last time I checked the current GM diesels are all assembled in Flint, Michigan. ALL cars have parts made outside of the country they are assembled in. As long as the package of the parts run good and the truck is assembled by American union workers I can sleep good.
|
It takes five times the people to manufactuier make the parts, as it does to assemble parts. Its an economic war. In 60 years will it be ok to have bin ladin motor in your grandkids truck. Tthink obout it.
