Do you currently have disc brakes on your trailer? If so you'll need an actuator (approx. $560 ) and a 2 battery breakaway kit (approx. $75) plus some misc. hardware for wiring and mounting the above parts. I was able to re-use all my existing brake lines on my trailer. I had drums and converted to Kodiak discs ( 3500 lb. axles ) for another $660, your larger axles would be slightly higher if you need the discs. You'll also want to gut the surge coupler and bolt or weld it solid. Hope that helps! Steve

Thanks Steve, I have 6 wheel disc. I have no problem drilling and through bolting the coupler, just wanted to see the basic for the conversion. How about the truck?. from what I was told the 01 brake controller from the factory is very good.

Most controllers work with the electric over hydraulic. What ever it costs it's worth it. You'll never want to drive with surge brakes again. I would weld the coupler not drill and bolt it. Much more solid.

Difficulty...... depends on your abilites.

My cost:
Brakerite pump: $560
Break away battery, box, switch and trailer pigtail: $75
Welder cost: $180 (I made several other improvements running this cost up)
Painting: $220
MaxBrake controller: $350

All the labor and steel fabrication was done by me.
Welding and painting was done by the pros.

I just converted my trailer this summer. Myco uses the Brake Rite II system with a single battery. You will want to use their kit vs. purchasing it directly because they use a longer harness and can sell you the braket to mount everything to your trailer. Call Tim at Myco and he can set you up with the parts - they have outstanding service. Tim also send me a replacement tongue that slips into the frame so you can ditch the surge system. My first gen Prodigy controlled the system perfectly.
