My 2005 F-350 6.0/Auto Supercab has been flawless. Left it stock.

Best Truck I have owned.

Good mileage. Lots of grunt

Great for hauling the family and groups with the boats I tow around.

Nice cab, Inside its pretty quiet for a small semi tractor

love the quiet of my 2008 6.4, but ****ty mileage at 12.5 mpg due to new emission standards that result in a regeneration cleaning cycle every tank that dumps fuel to clean the exhaust.

buddy has a 7.3 and gets 18mpg. runs strong and no problems

I do love the diesel for pulling my 33' formula
can spin the tires off the line with 12,100 lbs behind me and 820 lbs of tongue weight on the hitch.

'99 thru '03 factory intercooled 7.3's have geat engine reliability. Late '99s and '00s are the best with forged rods instead of powdered metal rods. The PMR's are not really a problem unless you're trying to make 450+ RWHP. Transmissions can be a bit weak but there are good aftermarket upgrades.

'03 thru '07 6.0s have a bad reputation. The problem with 6.0s is that most of the common failure items are pretty expensive and complicated to repair. EGR's, EGR coolers, oil coolers, FICM's, injectors, head gaskets (03 and 04 especially), VGR turbos, etc. They seem to be hit or miss if left stock.............some guys get 200k+ no problems and some have problems within 50k. With increased power most have problems unless they do some preventative stuff. If you're going to add a programmer or substantial power increases then EGR delete, EGR cooler delete, and head studs are almost a must for long term durability. The '05 thru '07s are better and that's also when they updated he suspension and body styling. Transmissions are pretty good.

The '08 and newer 6.4's seem better than the 6.0's but still have some of the same problems...........and some new ones also. Lousy effective mileage with the DPF's and the "regen" cycles, EGR failures, and at least the '08s had lots of radiator problems. Seems like guys that do a Spartan tuner, DPF delete, aftermarket exhaust, and EGR delete are making reliable big power and getting way better mileage.

I had a '97 F350 7.3 and sold it with 260k on it, towed 20k lbs more than half it's life, and it was still running strong. Most reliable truck I ever had. I have an '06 F350 6.0 now with 90k and haven't had any problems with it. It's pretty much stock except for a Bully Dog programmer but its had an easy life of mostly being a daily driver commuter. I also have an '02 F550 7.3 with 150k that runs like its new. I did just have to put injector cups in it which is a major PITA but I think it had to do with a previous overheating problem. It should be good to 350k to 400k miles now if I take care of it. I bought the 7.3 F550 because I didn't trust the 6.0 to tow lots of wieght far from home without leaving me stranded.

6.0 if you leave it stock for a comfortable daily driver that won't see lots of abuse and the 7.3 if your going to work the truck is my vote. Actually the 6.4 with the mentioned mods seems like it would be the best of boh but I'm not sure there's enough history for me to be comfortable with it.

i have a f250 with 6.0.no problems til 68,000 miles.towing a 9 thousand lb boat,it blew the head gasgets,dealer fixed,cost me 100.bucks.2 weeks later,towing 4500 lb boat,turbo takes a chit,dealer fixed it,cost me 100.bucks.truck now has 72,000 miles with no more problems,but im really worried that it will screw up again.i will be looking real close at the 2011 f250 with the new all ford 6.7 l engine.btw,the superchips programmer made tons of power,but im done with it.

may put my '02 F350 SRW up for sale soon. White, 7.3, 4x4, 4 door, long bed. Towed my 29' Phantom like it wasn't even back there. And I'm seeing high teens as well, probably get 20 if i tried.

My 08 350 is a nice truck and pulls great. Pulls a heck of alot better than my V10 Excursion. Mileage could be better. 12-15. Pulling 10,000# 10-11. Alot depends how you drive it. Just my .02

I agree with everything your stating.. and want to add.. leave it stock. The problem is with all the additional power of these tuners, you tend to push the trucks. I have had 6-6.0's 2 of them over 250k.. same with my Duramaxes. My 08' 6.4 I left stock.. best running truck Ive had...but mileage like stated sucks.

Yes if you run a 6.0 leave it stock, but I have over 300k Miles total on 2 7.3 with tuners, exh., turbo wheels , big tres, air boxes and other stuff, I get 20 mpg will out run/pull any stock 6.0 and never have any problems. I had the trans. built to handle the power and it's only about grand more to get the better parts that wont break and if the guy knows what he's doing you will be very happy.

I got an 04 f-250 with 6.0 and 72,000 miles. Always did the maintenance on time and no issues so far. I do worry about it sometimes due to all the bad stories you hear about the 6.0..

Ive had a 99 7.3 250K on it loved it. Now i have an 02 crew cab white with gold two tone tow my 32 hustler 35 cafe and car trailer no issues what so ever love the truck. Im actually sellin it to go with a 650 low teens. Down side 8" lift with 18'''s
