My brother has a F350 with the 6.0. 275,000 miles. They use it to haul anything around the country.
3 EGR failures, 10K worth of injectors have gone bad. 1 alternator. From what I understand from a friend that is a good diesel mechanic, is that the injectors heat up burning up the coil end. We talked about this extensively just yesterday. He has installed higher flow lift pumps and it seems to keep them cool and last longer. I have talked to a few guys with 6.4, they have some minor issues all were taken care of by Ford, they like them. The cab does have to come off of those trucks for head gasket changes. My 7.3 has not had any problem, but it only has 88k on it, you really can’t tell at that low of mileage. Personally I think some needs to take the F450 chassis (good looking truck) put a 6.7L Cummins in it with the 6 speed Alison,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,That would be a killer combo. |
my 2004 F250 6.0L towed my raceboats all over the country.
90k miles....no problems. I guess I was one of the lucky ones |

On my brothers truck the injectors didn't start failing until they were over 100k, I think about 125K for the first one.

I have had 4 7.3 trucks, a 90 non turbo...pig, a 94 IDI Turbo, slow but extemely reliable...290K.....a 99 with 288K, just sold it, no issues also hot rodded it..(tuner/exh/trans work/all that..
Now have a 99 again but CC Dually with 361,000 miles!! drives like 50,000 mile truck... I love it!! I would buy any 7.3 no matter what the mileage as long as it looks kept up....I flew to Texas because they are cheaper and I wanted 100% rust free... http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...91217-1159.jpg |
