2010 Dodge 2500 Diesel or 2011 Ford

Anyone have any insight on the newer Dodge diesels? I am in the market for a new truck. I am in between the new Ford 6.7 and the Dodge Mega Cab. I hate to buy the Ford and be a test rat again like I was on the 6.0.

Any pro or cons?

I am a ford guy all the way... And i want to start by saying that i know nothing about the dodge...

Having said that, the 6.7 seems to be well engineered. the truck will re-generate 1/17 of the time a 6.4 does. i would also assume the same spec for a cummins running the older dpf system. the truck uses a different type of exhaust system that sprays DEF (deisel exhaust fluid) into the exhaust stream reducing NoX emissions. since there is the use of that system the particulate filters in the exhaust do not fill with particulate matter as quick. the MPG of the truck seems to be wayyyy better.

the only con i can see is having to now fill your truck with exhaust fluid at each oil change.

Just bought a 2011 Ford. Very much improved. Just go look at one and drive it. I am very happy with it.

I have the 6.0 now but it just seems like it is about to start costing me alot of money. Have an injector going bad right now. Got a quote of $3200 to replace all of them and not sure it is worth putting the money into.

If you're happy with the truck itself, drop a common-rail 5.9L Cummins in it. That would be the cheapest option. In a diesel magazine, a company that was having troubles with the 6.0 in its F550 did just that. They took it to Beans Diesel Performance in Tennessee and had them do the swap. And the money you save will buy 300-400hp for the Cummins. :)

The new 2011 Ford F250 diesel retails between $50-$55k, over $60k if you get the dually.

I have an 2011 Ford Diesel and it rocks. Replaced my 2006.Got 10.3 MPG on a 600 mile tow pulling around 10,500 worth of boat and trailer at 65-75. Tons of pulling power, ultra quiet! I got the F-35-0 SRW and it is a little stiff when not loaded. Other than that, it is awesome. Gets aount 18 MPG combined road and city driving.

I have a friend that had 2007 Dodge 2500. He was at the dealer for some service and drove a 2010 just for kicks. Took it home that day. Said that the truck was just amazing.

Yeah, i think anything would be better than a 2007 cummins. i have driven a couple and i dont know why people buy them. the 6.0 would drag the frame out from under one of them. it was weird to see such an underpowered truck. my uncle has an olde 5.9 cummins and i have driven it too. dont get it but some people love them.

If I ever get up your way we'll do a pull off and see whose frame gets dragged off. In fact I'll give you the first yank. You'll blow that POS 6.0 before you move me an inch back. They don't call them PowerJOKES for nothing, and I'm talking about what the owners themselves call them.
