I have been starting to look at different options. I have even started searching for an older dually to see what I can find. A lot will also come down to what I decided to buy for a boat. In the meantime, I am going to prepare myself to handle whatever situation I put myself in. Whether I find a smaller boat I like, or a used dually for a bigger boat. Preferably, still leaning toward the twin I/O setup so renting a truck to handle that over distance is looking like a good option if I can find something like that. I've also looked to see what other diesels other than a dually can do the job as I've seen a few that are pretty inexpensive for late 90's/early 00's.

I have pulled a 30 footer with a 1500, take my advice, don't do it. It should however pull it around a marina.
My boat is a Baja 29 Outlaw
Weight on trailer: approximately 8700
Truck: 2006 Ford F-250 4x4 crew cab single rear wheel, PSD.
pulls no problem.

Have the marina tow it with a dually. If you are using their service all season, they probably won't gouge you.

I'm actually leaning to borrowing a friends truck (or renting) when the time comes and then just keeping it at a Marina with a rack storage. The one I'm looking at is $100 per foot all year. Just call them up, they will put it in the water and re-rack it as much as needed. It will all depend on what I buy really. If I end up with a single 28", it will cut down on a lot of the weight (depending on boat make).

I tow my 28 AT with my 07 Nissan Titan(9400 lb rating). The boat/trailer/fule/supplies, probably comes in around 7500-7800 lbs. I have absolutely no problems pulling with this truck. Went down to VA and back this summer(1000 miles round trip) and not one problem or issue other than a dead battery which obviosuly had nothing to do with the towing.

What ever you do, don't buy a 2000 Dodge Dually 4x4 Automatic. I went through 4 transmissions in one summer pulling a 1994 Cigarette TOP GUN. Went to a 2007 Dodge Dually Manual 4x4.....no problem. Diesel.
