Default Ford F350 Short Bed

Looking at an 06' F350 srw, crew cab 6.0L that has the 156" wheelbase that will be my daily driver & also tow the boat (when i get to use it).

Is there any major differences in handling between the longbed & shortbed? I have a 95 F350 7.3L srw longbed today that is only used to tow it, but looking to consolidate vehicles & the 95 rides decent but struggles pulling the Cafe thru the hills.

I had a 1995 f-350long bed it had a centurian DRW conversion kit on it I tow a Bullet and used to get down into 3rd gear on the long grade hauling it to florida I now have a 2005 F350 short box dually 4 door
Wow I can now accelerate up the same hills and the turning radius is absolutly great
Never missed the old truck.

I have a fiberglass cover on the bed I am wanting to sell I would like a roll up instead for when I haul the bike if you buy truck and are interested

Good info. It doesnt sound like the short bed has any adverse effects on handling for you then.

I was looking at duallys but think 99% of my use wont warrant one.

Shortbox has a significantly smaller fuel tank. 29 versus 38 or thereabouts.

the 1995 is also a non intercooled version of the 7.3 (cant remember the hp and torque off the top of my head). the 6.0 truck is going to have more umph. also the 6.0 has the torqshift trans. that makes for awesome towing. the 7.3 has a beefed up e4od (called the 4r100) and is a little primitave. the trans in the 7.3 also has a tnedency to learn to drop into overdrive too quick. clearing trans KAM can work well in making the truck shift like it used to.

i would for sure keep the 06. what an awesome truck! you can take the 95 to a nice farm somewhere where it will play with other trucks.

Unless you HAVE to have a long bed get a short bed. Putting my long bed up for sale as it just doesnt work for a daily driver (tho it has been for a year now). Annoying and obnoxious turning radius, my '97 GMC dually seemed like a go-kart compared to this one.

Wow the difference in wheelbase is pretty drastic. I have the full four doors and 8' bed so probably the longest on here.

Wheelbase '99-'06
137 in (3,480 mm)
141.8 in (3,602 mm)
158 in (4,013 mm)
156.2 in (3,967 mm)
172.4 in (4,379 mm)
