Changing 14 quarts of oil on a diesel at anything less than 5000 miles is rediculous and wasteful and a waste of $$$. All of these engines are designed for 300k plus miles and 99.9% of the guys on this board can afford to replace their trucks WWWAAAAYYYYY before that. I used to change my Cummins are 5k and have switched to 7500 with Rotella. That engine will outlive my truck's frame and body by 10x. Synthetics can run from 15k to 20k with no drawbacks at all.
Diesel oil will be black after 500 miles so it always looks dirty, but by changing the oil too often and causing dry starts and having too many detergents built up in your engine you are doing a lot more harm than good |
