So they only sheer off if the joint goes bad?

So if we greece the fittings, do we need to approach them from the rear? (Remember, turnabout is fair play!) We grease ours and generally do it from the front.

As for the fittings only breaking off when a u-joint goes bad, we've had a few shear off while the joint is still good. No explanation there. I've been pushing the owner to go with greaseless fittings on those trucks because once you shear one off, the ball joint isn't going to last long.

Anybody use napa's gold ball joints? They also have a lifetime warranty, are they any good?

Moog is a great replacement hands down. We here at our dealer use genuine parts just in case we have an issue and have to warranty the prt and labor. And moog has a lifetime but its hard getting labor back. The labor request on the ford parts is simple. And we can have you right back out the door. And the 550 a ball joints require no modification. Same joints. Just greasable. Think that they may be made by moog. Not for sure on that though. Can get you e part numbers we would use if you would like.

Have installed both and if u grease them all is god with both. It's the grease ability that saves you.

This requires a 90 degree Zerk fitting - which can pretty easily get sheared off. The newer trucks (maybe the ones with the coil srongs?) have much more clearance. Am I correct here?

You are correct using the right angle zero works though. Same clearance between the axle and zero if installed. But the 2005 and up trucks have tough joints! You can justputon the straight ones for the uppers all you will need then is a $5 adaptor for you're grease gun.
