No CDL needed for anything under 26001 pounds.

Ford figured that. All the F650's I have seen have 26000# GVWR in the door so we're all set on those also.

The key is passenger plates. If its non commercial than there are exemptions for weight, brakes etc. Your registered weight has to be the combined weight of truck, trailer and load. Overweight tickets can be big money if not properly registered.
