My friend was towing his 40ft fountian with a 2500 Dodge Hemi, got maybe 5-6mph and it was a scary ride IMO.
I towed my 36 OL with my F350SRW 6.0l Powerstoke and used 1/3 the fuel as him, and it felt much safer both driveline and ride.
To look at gas vs. diesel from a cost stand point doesn't make a lot of sense to me for go fast boat owners. Imagine if you looked at your boat the same way?
Bottom line if you can afford the 3/4 or 1 ton, with a diesel just do it! Just like if you can afford twin blue engines for your boat vs 6.2 small blocks. Would you get the 6.2 to save fuel?
You did not mention what you are towing, but your screen name suggests a 38 ft boat. Do not factor your lbs but what the title states as dry. My dry 8,000 lb OL tipped the scales on the trailer at 14,000 wet with gear.

with a programmer they are the fastest trucks on the road. My truck with a banks turbo, intake, exhaust and six gun would embarass ricers and leave them in a cloud of black smoke. -up to 20 mpg, 15-17 while towing.
-power to make you giggle, and light up 37" tires like they were donuts. Gives a sports car feel acceleration
-and it is "real" truck, not a softened up 1/2 ton for the masses.
- tow around in 5th gear at low rpms and never see the tranny shift at 75-80 mph
-chassis of a 3/4 has little to no flex compared to a 1/2 ton when towing, it is just safer if you have to evade something

Youll thank yourself for not buying a diesel. $150 gas fill ups, $100 oil changes, and fuel filter changes twice a year at $60 a pop. If your not going far and boat is under 10 definitely go gas. I bought a diesel and my boat is on the cust of 10, really wish there was something else.

Where r u getting 100 oil changes? ???? I pay 57 for a full service oil change. I get bout 23 MPG. An pulling 25,000 for the farm I get bout 13 if I'm not in a rush. Hell put a chip upgrade Turbo an will pull any boat u throw at it. I have had 3 diesel an 3 gas. An they average out bout the same over time. But its what ever u preferred really

I change the oil myself in my 2010 Cummins for $48-57 once a week (every 3500 miles of heavy car hauling) saving all my reciepts for business. I shop at autozone plus with the reward card save about 10% overall, so the price is actually $43-52. I usually use rotella 15 40 3 gallons/12 quarts and a stp filter. Depends what they have on sale, sometimes other brands are on sale and prices vary depending on what state I am in.
