I had displacement in a chevy junk. Also had a diesel and let me tell you this ecoboost will outperform just about anything. Guess what it has a warranty, let it it blow up I dont care
Maybe it's the best thing since sliced bread, but that will take time and distance to determine, much past warrenty. If they are still trouble free after 5 yeas and into the 150K + range I'd certainly consider one once I get my use out of my current tow vehicle. |

Anybody have any idea of the fuel economy between the 5.4 with 6speed auto, the eco boost and 6.2. Thanks

Got over 1000mi now and I am getting overall 17. Watching the DIC on the highway I get about 19-20 and in town 15-16. Havent heard but the 6.2 I would guess would be 3-4mpg lower than the eco boost.

1 was 300 miles north with the Ecoboost 6 were 80 miles north at the same dealership, all with 6.2's 1 was 300 miles south with the 5.0 (IIRC) So I went to the dealership with the 6 of them. I bought the 6.2 without test driving it, it had an issue with it that took a few days to resolve (in tank fuel pump was bad) so they gave me an Ecoboost as a loner vehicle. Very nice ride and power with the Ecoboost. The power was nice enough that I was questioning myself if I should have driven the 6.2 before buying it because I was prefectly happy with the Ecoboost. My truck was fixed, went and swapped the loaner for it and never looked back; the 6.2 rocks. "Different" type of power but rocks just the same. As far as MPG's. I went from a 2006 F350 6.0 King Ranch long bed diesel getting 15MPG so paying 50 cents less per gallon and $40 vs $140 oil changes was savings enough for me, few more MPG with an Ecoboost wasn't super high on my list. My 3 mile round trip commute to work plays in to that equation as well. I drove the Ecoboost for 800 miles over 5-6 days. Nice truck, very nice truck! 18MPG when flogging it, 21MPG when not. Some people complain there isn't as big of difference between flogging it vs taking it easy. I think they should look at it from the angle that it still gets 18MPG (vs say 12MPG) when flogging. Flog it all day and only lose 3MPG- fantastic!!! I have 3500 miles on my 6.2 is it is around 13.5MPG. The last 1000ish miles I've been around 14.4MPG; engine broken in a little and I've resisted the power urge with my right foot better as well. With the 6.2 I can get my speed fix with the power and sound where with the Ecoboost you have to rely on power alone, if that makes sense. I'm not a turbo hater by any means, just don't feel like I have to mash the gas all the time when I hear that V8 rumble when I get going either. Now the big question of what would I have done if the dealer had both a Platinum with the 6.2 and the Ecoboost? Glad I didn't have to make that choice!! I tell myself that as nice as the Ecoboost was, I would have still gone with the 6.2. More so because it seems like such a simple engine vs a complicated turbo. I don't have any facts to back that up, just seems like even I could work on my 6.2 (LOL, never going to happen since wrenches and I don't get along) where the Ecoboost would need a special trained tech. Who knows but after 3500 miles on my 6.2 and 800 miles on an Ecoboost; I don't think you can go wrong with either!! There is a reason the F-150 is the best selling vehicle, not just truck but vehicle, of all time- they rock!! |
I get it. The 6.2 rocks balls.
The 6.2 makes for a great truck and one Id love to own. Its also the clear choice if you are a guy that mods his truck. At the same time, I'd hardly call a dual equal variable valve timing SOHC dual knock sensor V8 "simple" but comparatively yes it is simple-er. Hard to make a bad choice out of these trucks. I just did an equal tow in another friends ecoboost 3:55 truck. It worked harder than the 3:73 truck on hills, and got a bit less mileage when towing. When unloaded it was a dream getting 21 mpg from my house to Laveycraft and back. Enjoy your truck congratulations. Uncle Dave |
