Buddy has the truck you ordered, crew Ecoboost with 3.73 gears, been avg 19-20 on the highway around 70. City he get's like 14-15 but thats impressive considering the size of the truck and he has a lead foot... 3.73 gears with the Ecoboost = that truck flies from every speed lol, it's like a higher reving mini diesel.
For your use it will be great, for one thing is this will be a daily or driven a lot vs only for towing, it will be way way more comfortable then an HD truck, the new F-150's feel so solid and smooth on the road. Hence why he went with that, he wanted the 5.0 but fig'd he'd be different and go the Eco route (the 5.0 is a gem of an engine as well and sounds gnarly), he only tow's once in awhile (29' Donzi CC) as the boat stays on his dock, but it's effortless towing that boat. Not sure what it weighs, think weight is between 6-7k lbs for the boat? |
Are these mileage numbers done by dividing the miles by the amount of gas or what the in cab display is saying?
Seems the displays are always optimistic. |

Diesel is now about the same price if not cheaper here in Chicagoland. .50 higher sounds like a lot.

I tow an 8-9K tohauler and a 7K 28 foot boat all the time with an 04 Nissan titan. (boat 5300, trailer 1200 + fuel ice chests etc. I have 50K of towing miles on it since new. Its handled it like a champ. HOWEVER the mountains in so call require 3rd a lot and one hill in particular- Davs Dam requires 2nd on a hot day at the top. this is where the turbos in EB provide a ton of value making up the hot thin air that the NA vehicles struggle to overcome. That means the titan is revving- a loong time. Nowhere near redline, about 3/4 - thing is it gets noisy. The ecoboosts environment under the same condition is much more relaxed and at least 1 if not 2 full gears lower under this condition. I made a few mods to the truck but all basic stuff. Living with a half ton is totally doable for me. I calculate my mileage the way men used to- page by page tank by tank. Uncle Dave |
