well I don't know what the issue was with your Duramax, but have driven both and it ain't even close between towing power of a duramax and ecoboost, not saying the ecoboost is crap...but if the 2 were close you had a serious issue...

+1. I was impressed with the Eco-Boost but it was not in the same category towing-wise as my DMax.

an ECO boost is no diesel. But IMO is better than the big gassers and has relatively the same power as late 90s early 2000s diesels. I had a 6.0 and 6.4 powerstroke and the diesel had more power and they werent close but I wouldnt go as far as saying there is no comparison either.

I had an 04 LLY Duramax. Power delivery, with the EB is smoother & of course, it is much quieter.
Sorry for the confusion. The EB is not more powerful than the Duramax.

Ive always had diesels..and nothing compares to the low end torque that they deliver. I have now a Eco boost and do tow 10500 with it..she impresses me very much. Better torque in the midrange where needed vs the 5.0 litre 360/385 as the other option. Both great Gas motors, just prefer the eco slightly better. Good luck.

whats the torque curve on theses diesels. Because I know the eco gives you all of the 420lbs at 2500rpm. I wondering what the diesel gives you. I would imagine its got to be pretty good as a diesel only goes up to 4k rpm anyways and has 650-750lbs of torque.

the majority of the tq starts at 15-1600rpms on the diesels. Cummins has a new tranny coming out for the 13's and the numbers are in.. 385/850..just cant remember if it started at 1600 rpms. The eco pulls hard..great torque curve, its better than I ever thought a 1/2 ton could pull.

Im curios to see what the second gen of these will be and if other makers counter. I would like to see a little better MPG and about 400hp with 500 torque, if thats possible. Combined a strong payload of about 3k 3500lbs. I would see no reason to go back to diesel if something like this was available.

Don't forget the 6.2L 411HP/434TQ.

The 6.2L's 434TQ isn't until 4500RPM so the Eco's 420TQ at 2500RPM is without a doubt much more tow friendly though.

My 6.2 gets around 18-18.5MPG @ 65MPH flat roads 1-300FT from sea level. That drops to 7-8MPG on the same roads with my 37 LOA (on trailer) 8500LBS boat behind me. Glad I only tow around 50 miles a year!

If they would put the same turbo setups on the big cube gassers they would pull just as hard as the diesels, they just wouldnt last half a million miles but see very few people on here keep their trucks that long so I dont think that would matter..
The V6 is getting roughly 100hp/100ftlbs tq per liter..
Put that on the 6.2l and your talking 600hp/600ftlb tq...
