Back in the 70's I helped my Dad many times load his small overnighter that probably weighed 3 tons with all the glass they used back then with his 71 2WD Chevy and that was before they started ribbing boat ramps. He'd just get some more of his beer buddies to jump in the back if he ever spinned a tire.

Be prepared. I don't leave home without it.

If I felt tow vehicle and trailer combintation could be set-up correctly perhaps. I worry about that stuff when the time comes, and that ain't coming as I'm perfectly content with my 28.

Guy posted a question, I gave a honest assessment of me using a 2WD and never needing a 4WD to pull up any ramp I've ever encountered with any of my boats or when I was a kid back in the 70's helping my Dad load his numerous boats. Would you all feel better if I joined the masses and insist that unless you tow with 4WD your doomed at boat ramps?

Thats the common thing to hear around here is you need a F450 to tow any boat regardless of size weight, etc or you need this or that. Otherwise you are taking everybodys life in your hands and not be a real man. There is some good insight and I would never tow a boat with something that couldnt handle it. I have 4x4 and will always have it, but if I didnt would I live YUP!! We got 4ft of snow up here in one week, so it snows here and I think I ran four wheel in my truck 5 times all winter, and those were more out of conveience than necessity.

the only thing Im trying to point out is size of boat IMO makes a huge difference and in reading any of your previous posts nowhere does it say what size of boat you are towing or talking about.....could be a 21ft Scarab for all we know.....thats all

You are kind of a tool...

I have 4 wheel drive, and have never used it on the boat ramp, but I got it for the same reason I carry a gun. I would rather have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

7500# isn't 13.5K + truck just under 21+K total on the CAT scale

ya' think yur dads ancient no-name 18' wieghed 6K?

my lady friends wouldn't do much for traction dancing on the bumper other than give me a hard-on

not willing to spin a tire whatsoever and chip up my trailer or gelcoat- this ain't no rowboat $. It's called taking care of your stuff.

I assure you I'm "properly set up".
I use 4wd at the ramp to avoid potential cosmetic damage, and make pulling up a sure-thing-everytime with no clowning of any kind.
I plow, snowmobile, pull stumps occasionally, and have the kind of job where even weather is a poor excuse to not show...
4wd is there to use period.
and besides, the question that begs to be asked of those who have it and don't use it...
what are you scared of?
what's the justificaton of avoiding it's use?

Make no mistake, I choose a tow vehicle to handle the job and not open me up to any kind of personal liabilty should a unforseen accident occur, and I make sure the combination is set up correctly. If I'm anywhere close to max tow ratings I spend more and heavy-up as your talking ambulance chasing lawyers if your over anywhere on your tow vehicles tow ratings. That has nothing to do with boat ramps.
