I would get a flat bed truck with a crane, and load trailer, boat et al, up on that, and have them deal with the permits. Plenty of companies up here that hauls boats. Besides. When you have the money for that boat, why on earth not spend a little on safe transport? The Norwegian police is not exactly easy going either, when you're doing traffic violations.

Sorry for the off topic.
You are right. This country is something of its own.. We are not part of EU, but we do follow all the EU laws. I guess it is a matter of importing all kinds of fereign citicens etc that the Norwegian gov don't want. We are allowed to use air bags (on the leaf springs). I need to get the boat up and down from the ramp, and get it where it should be all the time. Can't order truckers for that! I guess this is a pretty rare problem anyway. I just want to know what you guys mean, who have more experience with these systems.

Thanks for the input everybody!

Who cares about the length, trailer type, brake type or year of truck..

HOW MUCH DOES THE BOAT AND TRAILER WEIGH TOGETHER?

Thats where you're going to get stuck.

Will it stop properly? Yes. If you have the right brakes under your truck and trailer.

Will it pull it? Yes.. Theres enough HP assuming you're running a diesel.

Will it wander all over the highway because the front of the truck is in the air? YES.

If you had a trailer brake failure, would the truck stop the entire weight of the rig? NO.

Im assuming a 4 engine 50' cat is going to be over 20k. Adding leaf springs, airbags and all that will help significantly with stability but you're still taking a chance. You've got a LOT to lose, literally, behind that truck.

You sure you want to save a few bucks and risk it? You should really consider a truck upgrade...

I may be wrong, the weight may well be within the capacity of the truck. But I doubt it.

I tow my cafe behind my 1 ton dually - I wouldn't want any more weight behind it, and I am WAY less than a 4 engine 50' Cat...

Do you own a boat storage business and have a ramp for your customers or is it just that one guy with the humongous boat? You took the helper spring off so you will need to either reinstall it or go with air bags. I recommend bags which will ensure level towing.

But you're going to wear that truck out very soon towing that much weight. You would do well to find a Class 6 or 7 truck that is built to handle 20,000+ lbs.

Thank you guys for great input. The case is that I take care of many powerboats here for owners. We have a ramp and a storage hall/workshop. This boat will probably not be used very much, but when it does, I want to be able to get it around, up and down the ramp, up to the local gas station etc. It is just too much hazzle to order crane and tractor guys all the time. IT is a closed industry area anyway. I spoke with Bill Tweedy at MYCO today (who build the trailer). He said that it shouldn't really be a problem as long as the boat was empty of gas and water. Like he said, it is not an ideal truck to tow it with, but it would work, and if the braking system works, then it shouldn't be a problem to stop. Not any poor stability either (they tow these cats with regular "non goose neck" trailers also). Is I guess it is up to myself. Be careful and drive safely. The boat is so wide, that I will only take it out on the road in the middle of the night when there are no other cars, and bring two "assistance cars" with flashing yellow lights and "Wide Load" signs. I've pulled boat trailers all my life, and feel that it can be done with caution. I will also have to install air bags to the truck to make it maintain or increase its capacity.

^^^Looks like you've got it figured out then. I take it your truck is a diesel? If you don't have an exhaust brake on it, that would be the best addition you could put on your truck.
