I bought a 944 Turbo brand new in 1986. If I remember correctly, the 944T was the fastest US legal car you could buy that year. 160 mph.

Funny story, I was 24 at the time, walked into the local Porsche showroom dressed like a typical kid in sneakers and jeans and told the salesman that I wanted a Guards Red 944 Turbo. He looked up at me from his desk and said "me too" and went back to reading the paper ...I walked out, drove to the next dealer, bought one and promptly drove back to show this dick my new car...and bought the floor mats from him

Kurt, I wouldn't have even given him the satisfaction of buying the floormats from him! As a young, avid Porschephile, (even before I had a drivers license) your story hits close to home. I got lots of "daddy's Porsche" comments in my earlier years, none of which ever sat well with me.

Cig35 tell your buddy if he is serious about selling that car to put the stock wheels, front spoiler, pedals and steering wheel back on it. The car is too nice/too low mile to be anything less than 100% original.

Vintage 911s are hot. My project for the past 15 years started out as a 1974 911S. I have updated this car over the last 80.000 miles ive drove it. These 911 platforms have the greatest possibilities to be build your way. Almost all parts from 1969-1989 bolt right in, windows, doors, engines+trans and all lights. I'd start with a bucket of soapy water and a hose!

How many miles? Did it run when it was parked? Might be as simple as a new battery and fresh gas. Don't be surprised if it smokes A LOT when you first start it. They have a tendency to leak oil into the cylinders if they sit for a long time, especially if the valve guides are worn.
