I currently have a 2000 Sierra Z71 1500 5.3L. I just rolled 295,000 on it. I change oil every 8-10,000 miles with Mobil 1 10w-30 and have never been more than a 1/2qt low.

I have friends with 6.0's and it is not the kick in pants more than my 5.3L that I would have expected. The 8.1L my friend had was a beast but mileage is unacceptable. Years ago one of my most memorable truck driving experience was my cousins 2002 Duramax with an Edge...Juice?? with 5 levels on it. It was the first diesel I drove and it was quite impressive. It got 22mpg or something like that. He didn't keep the truck very long so his knowledge is limited.

My Ford diesel gets better economy towing 12,500# than my 8.1 Yukon gets going 60mph on the highway empty. I know diesels are more expensive to maintain and to purchase, but $140 fill ups every 350 miles normal driving and half that many miles towing is a joke. Plus it is much easier to find a truck stop when you're traveling in unfamiliar areas than it is a regular gas station that will fit your truck and trailer.

You should consider buying something out of the south Jason, trucks that age up here in Michigan are time bombs for rust. I bought a 2006 Florida truck and it's amazing, like brand new.

Good idea BGIII! I will be in Texas for work in a couple of weeks. Maybe I can find something down there and have one of the riggers back haul it for me.

J,

We could have talked trucks at Hardy LOL....I have a 02' 2500HD Duramax and have the Banks 6 Gun kit. I like the Banks kit as it will defuel the engine to limp the tranny if needed....alot of the other kits like PPE etc. will not. I pull the Sunny on level 4 of 6 and get in the upper teens to 20 MPG towing.

Yeah I bought a 2008 F250 6.4l in 2010 the truck was one that a dealer got at a auction and was from florida. Truck was like brand new only thing was some of the black plastic was faded a little more but with armorall it wasnt a problem. truck was a XLT 4x4 extended cab off road version with 14k miles on it. Was an 08 but wasnt sold until may of 2009, so bascically a year old and I got it for 30k, still dont know why it was so cheap.

But thats gone and would never go back to diesel unless i had the true need.

The black truck you had up at Hardy was an '02? Your s#it looked new! I didn't realize I wanted/needed a diesel until a few weeks ago. How many miles you have on yours?

Yessir....it is an 02' with 102,000. I have put only about 25,000 miles on it in the 6 years that I have owned it.

There ya go! I have many plans for it in the next year once I get done messing with this boat motor....like that will ever happen! 140k miles and a rev limiter set at 5500 rpm and yes it finds it regularly.
