I’m looking to buy this Freight liner FL60 as my tow pig. It’s got a 5.9 cummins and Allison transmission. What are your thoughts on it? |

What are your thoughts on it? ...the thing you don't notice while you are shopping is how much noise they make/have. The wind noise on some of these bigger trucks is brutal. Couple that with drivetrain "hum", and the noise really tires you while you are driving. I had always wanted a MD truck, but now after experiences driving and towing a few of them, I've backed off on that thought. My personal tow vehicle is a 2018 Ram 3500 with high end trim, which also included additional sound deadening over a base model. I drove brand new 2020 Kenworth day-cab semi-tractor last week, and the new trucks have come A LONG way with sound isolation and deadening. You could not tell the engine was running unless you rolled down the window. |

I currently have a Nissan Titan with an 8 inch lift and big tires/rims. So it struggles pulling my 32 Fountain CC on the highway but is excellent on the ramp with that extra width/grip the tires give me. But on the highway I can't pass 60mph. We recently got a water front property, I will be doing 150 mile trips on the highways often on the weekends. I don't mind the noise that much because we wont be doing more than 2 hour trips. And when we are in miami the ramp is very close to our house (10 miles). What would you say is a decent paying price for this FL60? If i get a good deal on it, I will pull the trigger.
But before you pull the trigger, take it for a ride on the highway with your S/O. I am willing to bet you will have to somewhat yell to talk across the cab. That truck might not be geared to go that fast on the highway either, pending it's original usage. And coupled with it being only RWD, that would be sketch me out on tidal ramps which can be wet and slimy with algae. We all know what happened to Gino years ago: https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/...ck-water-3.jpg https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/...ruck-water.jpg |
I had a couple of old body style fl60 sport chassis and they are very easy to drive ,and park they tow fantastic, and draw attention all the time. in my opinion very cool I now have a f650 wheel base is a little longer air brakes and air ride - its a very cool truck look at super trucks 650 just google them I only use it to tow the boat and go to a couple car shows a year would not want it to be a daily driver you have to park far away because its big and its expensive so i dont want door dings - my insurance is cheap cause its a personal vehicle and i store it for 6 months a year [about $200 a year ] you just need a drivers licence for a truck - i have a class A non cdl some will argue

I'm sure my wife would love the break from hearing me talk about nonsense!! It is funny, although I've never used it, I don't think I'd want a 2WD truck on a ramp..... |

Ya the only thing holding me from buying it. Is that i feel like I'll just burn rubber at the ramps lol. But I think towing on the highway must be a breeze for the Freightliner. I really like that it has cummins and allison transition. The truck was originally an ambulance. But got converted
https://www.eztracawd.com/ If I ever end up with a medium, and use it for towing boats, I would likely have a system like this installed. |
Maybe you should change the name................^^^^^^^

Bad ass parking / display lot just the same!

All those trucks and the bookends are the only two worth more than crap. :D :D

I had a "poor-mans" FL-50 to tow my TopGun. 2-wheel drive and NEVER had an issue on a ramp. Ever. Ran back and forth to Florida from Maryland more than a dozen times and never noticed or got "tired" from road noise. Most of them have stereos in them!! If you look at the photo of the one in the water at Haulover... Notice that it looks like there is an aluminum flatbed on it. Is that to save weight? :eureka: As far as driveability. My Freightliner was easier to park or go thru tight spots than a 2500 Chevy crew cab. the turning radius is much smaller due to the frame rails being narrower. My Wife would drive it to run errands around town... She loved it!! :drink:

So I ended up buying it. I couldn’t pass up on the deal. I’ll be gutting the interior and customizing the upholstery. |

Just picked up a super clean 2013 GMC3500 4x4 Duramax/Allison. 30k miles on it. Been towing my fountain with my old Chevy Silverado 3500 4x4 with a 6.0 gas motor. Amazing difference.

Haven’t had a chance to hook my O/L to the new rig yet, but I did tow this one a bit today. |
Nice truck. What happened to the dually?
|
The one I bought from you I sold about a year ago. I had built another one just like it but with an 06 body and frame with the 7.3. Had the 2 of them a while. After putting a ton of miles on both of them decided it was time to upgrade.
|
Matches a little better than the old truck.

Truck is bone stock. For some reason I kind of like them that way. Boats not so much

Newer diesels are insane HP/TQ when stock, no need to upgrade!
