Has anyone ever seen a factory receiver fail???? I have a bunch of friends that sled pull with the factory set up and no failures yet...and we are talking upwards of 1000hp. Now the hitches are another story...see lots of them bend...

Tis true, I've said it on here many times. The Ford V5 hitch is the NAME DESIGNATOR of their Class-III hitch. They do have a heavier duty hitch, which I do think is the Tow Beast. However, it looks like something that should be hanging off of a landscaping truck. I ripped the V5 off years ago and went with a Putnam. Too bad Putnam is gone now.

I do recommend ditching the Grade-5 bolts that come with most hitches and going with Grade-8 bolts as well. I went with extra long bolts, big square washers, and double nutted. :D

I guess I was one of the ignorant ones, admittedly. I never researched the hitch.

I think I will buy the Reese Titan, part 45297. Any thoughts?

I will check the grade of the bolts and change to 8s if needed.

Thanks! Seems the cheapest is off eBay...275 with free shipping.

I am curious now if I will even need a drop ball mount. I'll have to wait until spring to see I guess.

I don't see a forged mount with no drop, only a 3 inch drop.

Mounts are more readily available than hitches. You might even find one locally. Check your Tractor Supply and the like companies, as well as truck outfitters. I found leftover Putnam drawbards stocked locally after they were out of business. Also check out Curt hitches before you purchase. They make nice hitches and drawbars.

I've noticed, you never really find worthwhile hitch info on the diesel/truck/brand specific forums as they are all too busy tooting their own horns and dragging trucks over curbs with chains. :D

You have to go to the RV & Boat sites to get solid towing information and advice.
