Ball Mount for 2.5" Ford Hitch
 

Guys, looking for a ball mount and was going to buy the Titan by Reese but says it won't work with the Ford hitch.

What are others using with their Super Duty's with the factory hitch??

Prefer one forged that will handle 15k

I don't know if this helps much since I live in Des Moines IA, but I just went to our local hitch dealer and they hooked me up with a very nice one. Its not a cheepo Reece, and cost me $100.00, but its worth it when you have 38 feet behind you. There should be a local shop in your area to hook ypu up. Good luck!

So I just received a PM from a member and he informed that the factory Ford hitch is only rated at 8k and 800 tongue weight carrying and 15k weight distributing....just checked the tag on the hitch and confirmed.

Pretty disappointing that it isnt a true class V hitch.

yeppers,,your best bet is to order the titan hitch with the solid reciever..i think the reciever is only rated for 10-12 k also..reese makes a Ibeam set up thats rated for 2000 tw and 18000 gvw,1 1/2 rise or 3'' drop part #45322.

It's been like that since they started their Superduty line in 1999. Wish I had a nickel for everyone that argued with me about it. Too many buyers making assumptions prior to verifying.

Looks like a 45297 hitch and 45322 ball mount and can't remember the ball.

Such BS, one ton truck with dual rear wheels with a half ton hitch!

CRAP..........It flexes so bad by the time you get halfway across the country you will be so pissed off from it smacking you in the back of the seat you will not want to tow ever again. I took it off in Houston and had a local weld shop put some gussetts and stiffners in....Its fine now!

I had the tow beast complete WD setup. I found that the setup puts the ball about 10" further back than it needs to be. Further away from the rear axle lengthens the moment arm and increases the leverage. I fabbed a 2.5 solid bar into the WD mating part. It now sits barely behind the rear bumper. Tows great

Tis true, I've said it on here many times. The Ford V5 hitch is the NAME DESIGNATOR of their Class-III hitch. They do have a heavier duty hitch, which I do think is the Tow Beast. However, it looks like something that should be hanging off of a landscaping truck. I ripped the V5 off years ago and went with a Putnam. Too bad Putnam is gone now.

I do recommend ditching the Grade-5 bolts that come with most hitches and going with Grade-8 bolts as well. I went with extra long bolts, big square washers, and double nutted. :D
