I have or had both new FORD and DODGE.
I had a 2012 F350 with the 6.7 or 6.8 D engine. Crankshaft broke at 27,000 miles and cracked my block. Only had 240 miles of towing time. The remaining milage was just going to work.
B.S.
I now have a 2013 Dodge with Diesel with the Aisin 6 Speed Auto transmission with no problems.
Don't get the other transmission for Dodge.

Be carefule getting the FORD. A lot of problems.
The FORD was awesome and it towed and shifted better than the DODGE, but the FORD blows up.
The FORD had way better acceleration towing or not. Even towing up hill with the FORD was way better than the DODGE.
It's SAD, because I liked the FORD better than the Dodge.

Forced to get the Dodge so I don't break down. That is what is important.

Of all the dually's I have owned over the last quarter century the best was my 92 F-350 with the 7.3. I have owned three Fords in a row and put many miles on all of them without issues. I know that the emissions is what made Ford change to the 6.0 and then the 6.4 or 6.7...whatever, but they are improving. The 7.3 was bulletproof and a strong puller.
The ride and suspension and especially the frame of a Ford is better than the Chev. The Dodge is a very respectable and reliable vehicle and has its disadvantages as well such as rear seating compared to the F Series.
My friend bought a brand new Dodge 4X4 last year and it hauled ok, but got lousy mileage! He traded for a slightly older F-350 Dually with a 6.7 and I have driven it and towed with it. Let me tell you it is an awesome vehicle. Nicely loaded and maxed out with options and a great tow vehicle...

Love my 2011 Dodge 3500, will be putting some new 20" rims and tires on it, and some extras like step bars and changing the gold to flat black.

I had this discussion yesterday with someone who pulls big boats around for a living. He uses customers trucks/rigs and does not have one of his own so he gets to drive everything from F650s, Sportchasis, and the other usuals.

He told me to buy a F350 (over a 450 because it is geared better) 2011 or newer. I was a bit taken back as well given all the other much cooler/bigger vehicles he pulls with.

duramax all the way for me. I have owned 2 LBZ models and about to buy my 3rd duramax but in a LML model.I know many other guys running duramaxs also pulling boats and toys. Never any problems and pull great for all of them. Body and interior are much better quality then dodge IMO. I love everything about the fords, except the engines. they scare me.

You have to wonder if the diesel is even worth the effort for limited towing or lighter loads.....emissions, steep price difference and the ability of the gassers to pull greater weights. If you owned a 38 ft go fast and lived near your boating destination it would be hard to justify the hassle of a diesel.

A short trip to the ramp, less than a couple thousand tow miles annually pulling a reasonable size boat I wouldn't bother with a diesel and I had a trouble free Duramax for 170K miles but dumped $39,000 in fuel in it to run it that far (more than I paid for the truck new!)
