Seems like overall, generally speaking, there are not too many 1 ton dually tow rigs out there, knocking down big MPG numbers. I see on some other sites, whether it be a Ford, Dodge, or Chevy Forum, there are quite a few inflated mpg numbers, by guys trying to make themselves feel better about their purchase.

You are still pushing a heavy, not real aerodynamic box through the wind burning $4 diesel........ Look at it this way, 12 mpg means every 3 miles you throw a $1 out the window in fuel! Start commuting in your dually and you suddenly are smoking through serious gas money! My buddy is an electrician and he found it cheaper to drive a Honda Fit to estimate jobs/get permits than to drag the F350 everywhere. The fuel savings alone pays for the 2nd vehicle plus he doesn't have to worry about a truck loaded with tools all the time! Crack heads love spools of copper wire and the tools are just icing on the rock!

Every 3 miles in the boat you throw $10 out the window!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have thought before about buying a little civic or something to daily drive, but I always come to the conclusion that I would end up saying "Well, I'll just take the truck today for fun" and the commuter car would sit so I never have. These diesels are just too fun!

And thats the answer to tell people when they ask why gas is so expensive,,because it can be.
People dont care,,they will keep driving their 10-14mpg trucks and SUVs to work or play whether they need to
or not and whether gas is $2 a gallon or $6 a gallon..
I am one of those by the way myself, my Saab Aero (trailblazer SS) gets 14city 18hwy on a good day,,all I care about is the
400horsies under the hood. Not smart but sure is fun..

I am not an SUV guy but if I had to get one I would buy a Porsche Cayenne TDI or VW Touraeg TDI....both decent performers with decent mileage for an SUV. Local paper had an ad last week for the VW Passat TDI....gets 800 miles to a tank (HWY) and the car is made in Tennessee and is similar to an Audi A4.....you can even get a 6 spd manual tranny too!
