AGAIN....the trailer is more important then the truck....if the trailer is not Safe the training wheels are not going to help.

I beg to differ. I have had long bed, crew cab, short bed, suburban, you name it...The truck is just as important as the trailer. DRW is safer, smoother, better towing HANDS DOWN as in no comparison. What you are forgetting to realize, is that the DRW has bigger brakes, wider axles in addition to wider stance on rear. It's not just better when towing a gooseneck, it's better towing everything!! Towing with a DRW allows an extra margin of safety for when the unexpected, but all to common problems arise with your trailer.............lost brakes, lost a tire/rim, sudden evasive action, etc... I have towed many sub-par trailers out of necessity cross country that would have scared the chit out of me with anything less. The difference in braking and stability alone is enough to warrant the DRW. Trailer brakes fail quite often.

just sayin

show me where i said a 1500 would do the trick??? i have never used a drw truck and don't plan to unless i win the lottery and leave it hooked to my boat in my heated garage. i have probably towed more boats than most on here and have never had an issue with my srw truck, not one issue. from 22ft-43ft, 3000 lbs-20k. it was a simple question that deserved a simple anwer so you would be correct in saying that there is no need for a heated discussion or better yet a reply to my post. btw, you can make a hypothetical for anything and i don't care what you are pulling with, you can still have a bad day.

Hey as long as you trailer is awesome you can tow that with a S-10, thats what I hear.

You `re nuts not owning a DRW to tow over 17, 000lbs by the way.. holy crap!!.
I thought mine was heavy at 15, 000lbs.

A tuner will get rid of that problem.

Well.....I have actually towed the boat with both so I feel qualified to discuss....now I'm running outboards (2) and a 34, little lighter the BBC..... first towed the boat with F-350 Crew 7.3 Diesel drw stick 2wd. Loved it, was a third car so didn't need to drive it everyday, did a couple of road trips in it.....most of the tows were 200 ft to the ramp. Went to Raystown Lake and got stuck at a ramp....I knew 2wd was a gamble...but went for it. Got it out with a bunch of guys on the tailgate but didn't want to do that again. Sold the dually and the daily driver Tahoe and bought an Excursion with the 7.3 diesel and 4wd. The Excursion pulls very nice but do know there is a difference without the second pair of rear wheels....and the 4wd....well enough said on that.

The two roadys we do a year and the regular 200 foot trip to the ramp....Excursion is for me.....Pulling a 38 all the time drw!

I don't know how guys can sit here and act as if a 2500 SRW is plenty for a 382 Formula, and that a 1 ton dually is overkill. Are you guys serious? Some of you act like a 1 ton dually is a friggin class 8 semi tractor with a sleeper and drop axles for hauling 100K lowboy loads. Its a friggin 1 ton pickup. If a 38FT offshore boat, doesn't qualify a 1 ton ton dually, what does? A 56ft Sea Ray? 48 Sunseeker?
